The 80s were an interesting time forhorror , as we truly had a picayune bit of everything ( then again ,   perhaps that ’s the case for most decade . ) Of course , leading the pack was the slasher plastic film genre . Slashers were big business throughout the 80 , thanks to franchises likeFriday the 13th , Halloween , andA Nightmare on Elm Street .

We also got nasty movies , likeThe Fly , The Evil Dead , andThe matter . And of course , we had ghosts , as seen inThe ShiningandPoltergeist .   But enough about the classics . Everyone has seen those movies . Let ’s move on to something else . These are 10 leave LXXX movies that were excellent .

An American Werewolf In London (1981)

In 1981 , John Landis ofAnimal HouseandThe Blues Brothersfame went totally against type and give usAn American Werewolf in London . This moving picture has enjoy a cult classic status in late years , but in regard to mainstream sentiment , it is wholly forgotten .

This motion-picture show is not only terrifying but also surprisingly hilarious and wacky . But mostly terrifying . The werewolf sequence are positively nightmarish and John Chambers ' fantastical makeup work realise him the very first Best Makeup Academy Award !

Re-Animator (1985)

Surprisingly enough , Re - Animatoris perhaps the full H.P. Lovecraft adaptation . It ’s based on his novelette , Herbert West - Reanimator , which is perhaps his most famous non - Cthulhu Mythos story . It concerns a kooky scientist named Herbert West who begins to experiment with a cryptic serum that brings dead people back to life .

It was quite a controversial film in its daylight , as it was in the beginning give an ex rating by the MPAA due to its persistent and impressivelydisturbing gore . Gorehounds could certainly do a lot worse .

Horror movies fall in all shapes and size . When we traditionally think of fourscore horror , we normally reckon of silent mask killers and gooey gore . But sometimes repugnance moving picture take care inwards , andHenry : portrayal of a Serial Killeris perhaps one of the rawest horror film of the 1980s .

This movie star Michael Rooker as disturbedserial killerHenry , who is generally based on real - life in series killer Henry Lee Lucas . Despite a positive critical response ( thanks mainly to Rooker ’s performance ) , the movie was extremely controversial and never broke into the mainstream .

Night Of The Creeps (1986)

And on the other death of the spectrum , we haveNight of the Creeps , which did n’t take itself or its dependent matter very gravely . This movie sort of encapsulated everything that made LXXX horror so wacky and fun , as it mixed elements of zombie , exotic invasion , and slasher film – all of which were very pop throughout the decennium .

It was intentionally designed as a corny B - movie and it contains all the glorious cheesiness you would await from a movie of its sort . Unfortunately , the movie never really beguile on and quickly fleet into obscurity after its 1986 sack .

Videodrome (1983)

Videodromeis perhaps the weirdest movie on this listing , as it is advisedly and proudly uninviting . At its core , Videodromeis about the chief executive officer of a television studio apartment who discovers a bizarre and deep broadcast that causes him to   misplace touch with reality . It ’s surreal , unearthly , trippy … select your equivalent word .

Unfortunately ,   its dim and   obtuse nature   make it to fail at the box function . But if you ’re a fan of David Cronenberg or organic structure horror in general , you owe it to yourself to check outVideodrome .

Unfortunately , Day of the Deadwas just too sour , depressing , and violent for most people , especially those who were coming off the " fun " ofDawn of the Dead . But it is this brutal bleakness that makesDaysuch a masterpiece . dissociate it fromDawnand try it again . You ’ll thank us later .

Near Dark (1987)

Back in 1987 , no one knew who Kathryn Bigelow was . alas , this resulted in her Westernvampirefilm , Near Dark , coming and going without much fuss or pain in the ass . This movie contains a fewAliensalum , including Lance Henriksen , Bill Paxton , and Jenette Goldstein . So if you require to feel nostalgic , you could do a muckle worse thanNear Dark .

But it also function improbably well on its own thanks to the unique blending of genres , which admit vampire repugnance , Western , biker , and , astonishingly , poignant crime syndicate dramatic event . In fact , we ’d say it ’s one of the undecomposed vampire films out there .

The Changeling (1980)

We do n’t bang why , but when it comes to haunted house movies , no one seems to rememberThe Changeling . Critics have always adored it and it is widely considered among picture buffs to be one of the greatest frequent house motion-picture show of all time . Even Martin Scorsese has experience in on the lovemaking , calling it one of his 11 favorite horror moving-picture show . Yet no one ever seems to verbalize about it .

perhaps it was overshadow byThe Shining , another " haunted house "   movie that came out   in 1980 . Either way , The Changelingdeserves mode more respect , adoration , and popularity !
