The holidays may be over but there are some things ( like kinsperson ) that will frequent us incessantly . What has haunted theStar Warsfandom ( and creator George Lucas most of all ) for over forty geezerhood was the first sequelStar Warsfilm ever make . No , it ’s notThe Empire Strikes Back , itTheStar WarsHoliday Special .
The especial premiered on television in 1978 , and Lucas has been trying to destroy copy of it ever since . With the introduction of YouTube his efforts were for not , but no one would advocate you place any time in consider the insanity that is the peculiar . Here are just a few of the most laughable things that actually deal position on screen .
Boba Fett is Introduced
Shockingly enough the galaxy ’s most notoriousbounty hunterdid not first appear in the theatrical release ofThe Empire Strikes Backin 1980 , rather he appear as a cartoon eccentric ( that ’s right , a sketch persona ) inThe Star Wars Holiday Special . Chewie ’s son ( yes , he has a son ) watches a cartoon sport the man in the Mandalorian armor , though no reason is ever provided to looker .
One look at the cartoon and the huntsman becomes much less menacing than he seems when he appears to take Han Solo from Cloud City . There are some things you just ca n’t make up .
It’s All in Shyriiwook
Do n’t lie with what Shyriiwook is ? You really do , you just never put a name to it . Shyriiwook is the Wookie language . You know , Chewie ’s growls and such . Chewie gets aside with it because the movie scripts are genius in how they organize Han to always translate for Chewie whether directly or as a answer .
That ’s not the case inThe Holiday Special . Most of the movie is Chewi ’s mob skin and growling at one another , and yes , there are subtitle you have to read . That ’s not quite the enjoyable firm paces experience of the space opera fan are used to .
Life Day
Ever thought you ’d want to see what Christmas looks like in a galaxy far far aside ? You do n’t , you really do n’t . " Christmas , " at least to Wookies , is a vacation send for Life Day . It was celebrated once every three years on Chewie ’s home major planet of Kashyyk and was meant to honor the planet ’s divers life-time form and recollect syndicate . It ’s festivities included eating a particular root , trimming a Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree ( phone intimate ) , and general merriment . Oh , and the Wookies wore special red robes . If you ever think Chewbacca call for more clothing , The Holiday Specialproves you very untimely .
Musical Finale
Carrie Fisher could sing , as she ’d been execute with mother Debbie Reynolds for most of her living , but that does n’t think of we ever needed to see Princess Leia smash out a lay for all to hear . The Holiday Specialends with just that . She sings " A solar day to Celebrate " supposedly a traditional anthem for the Life Day vacation . It ’s not really a traditionStar Warsfans want to keep . This is of path only the last Sung dynasty of the finale before Leia viewers get to mind to a large grouping of scarlet - garb Wookies bark and growling to an aerial Sung of their own .
Hologram Entertainment in the Brain
For entertainment , the whole galax should really wedge to Sabacc and Dejarik ( that fun behemoth chess game on the Millennium Falcon ) because what we see on Kashyyk is honestly just disturbing . Forget cartoons for the young Wookies , you’re able to stop up holograph amusement direct into your mind . That ’s what viewers get to watch Chewie ’s Fatherhood do . His dad , Attichitcuk seat beneath what looks very much like an ancient hairdryer to plug amusement right into his very furry school principal .
Diahann Carroll Hologram
Oh , but what does Attichitcuk in reality end up find out in his hologram cable head ? That would be famed American actress and Diahann Carroll in a glittery frog infested medicine video .
" I am in your intellect as you make me , " she sound out . " I can feel my creation , " she titter , interrupt by grunts from the Wookie within the hairdryer . " Oh we are excited , are n’t we ? " she asks . It ’s kind of uncomfortable to find out and listen to . This is all before she begins singing , " This Minute , " to the oddly captivate Attichitcuk .
Wookie Cooking Show
What could be even more interesting to watch over than an uncomfortable musical hologram with Chewie ’s dear old dad ? Well , a preparation show with his married woman as she prepares to celebrate Life Day . It ’s not as uncomfortable as the Diahann Carroll show , but it ’s not exactly tempting television , for Chewie ’s married woman or for her interview . Did it really need to be included ? Does it contribute to our understanding of Wookie culture ? Not so much , though it surely does n’t make anyone desire to expend any redundant time on Kashyyk . It ’s no wonderment Chewie agreed long ago to traipse across the galaxy with Han Solo and leave his family and nursing home major planet behind .
Drinking From the Brain
Harvey Korman was an American actor and comic best known for his Emmy advance performance on The Carol Burnett Show . He was one of quite a few fame to seem on the special , like the already mentioned Diahann Carroll . While Carroll ’s operation was uncomfortable , Korman ’s was just downright puzzling . He appears as three different characters in three dissimilar " comedy " bit . What he is most remembered for is the fact that one of his part accepts a drink and proceeds not so much to drink it , as to pullulate it into a hole in the top of his promontory . What was the tip ? No one has ever been able-bodied to find a good answer .
Bea Arthur Sings
Like Harvey Korman , Bea Arthur also made a renown appearance onThe Star Wars Holiday Special . She appear as the bartender at a cantina . There ’s nothing strange about that in theStar Warsuniverse , we meet Chewie and Han in a cantina after all . What is especially unearthly is that this bartender feel the need to sing . That ’s right , she appears in a " plan " to educate Wookies about Tatooine and serves drinks until the Empire closes her down . What does she do about it ? Offers everyone one last round , andsingsto them all about it .
Music Video for The Empire
The Empire shows up at Chewie ’s house to despoil it in search of him ( he ’s a wanted Johnny sympathizer after all ) . What does the family do ? They determine a really smart way to try and distract these Imperials is by turn on Malla ’s ( Chewie ’s married woman ) " picture corner " and blast a hugemusic videoof real - life band Jefferson Starship . The weird music video does n’t do anything but force everyone to hesitate awkwardly until it finishes , then the Imperials continue cast aside the Chewie kinsperson home .
