A mickle of people enjoy J.K. Rowling ’s famousHarry Potterbook series and the ridiculously successful film franchise . That being said , not everyone is into it , and that ’s ok ! That does n’t mean there are n’t heaps of big fancy film you ’ll bang !

Despite the stain of illusion being dorky , we all have a little ofDungeons   & Dragonsgeek in us somewhere . What this list sets out to do is taper out some other not bad steel and sorcery franchises and one - offs that just might be a good fit for you . Strap on your scabbard and make indisputable you ’ve aim a good caller with you !

Lord Of The Rings (2001-2003)

The Lord Of The Ringsis technically 3 flick , based on 3 book by J.R.R. Tolkien . This serial is the quintessential fantasy storey . It has everything you could require from a phantasy series ! There ’s the fun , company feeling ofThe society Of The Ring , the intrigue and betrayal ofThe Two Towers , and the all - out war between good and evil that you ’ll find inThe rejoinder Of The King . Peter Jackson truly found his magnum opus with this trilogy .

The Golden Compass (2007)

This is another trilogy , however , only one of them got made into a movie . This moving picture is based on the book of the same name from theHis Dark Materialstrilogy by Phillip Pullman . It ’s more or less a fantasy report for younger to sure-enough teens in the same wayHarry Potteris and find the same backlash for some of its saturnine themes . If you may get past some of the somewhat heretical Christian undercurrent , it ’s a great film based on a great novel , complete with a attractively crafted world .

The Chronicles Of Narnia (2005-2010)

The Chronicles Of Narniais probably best known for an super pop film that subsist as the first part of the enfranchisement , titledThe Chronicles Of Narnia : The Lion , The Witch , And The Wardrobe . This movie is also establish on a franchise of books , which were the source for its sequels : Prince Caspian , The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader , and the upcomingThe Silver Chair .

There are tons of entries in the series that have n’t been made into films and have even been skim over , mostly because they do n’t relate direct to the siblings who are the focus of the first film released .

The Hobbit (2012-2014)

Another ledger entry on this list from the absolute genius of fantasy , J.R.R. Tolkien . In plus to being the generator of 2 implausibly popular Christian Bible series set in the fictional Middle Earth , he was good supporter with C.S. Lewis , author ofThe Chronicles Of Narnia . The Hobbitis a prequel serial publication toThe Lord Of The Ringsfilms despite being indite before , with the success of the latter being one of the understanding for the former . The movies are   about Bilbo Baggins going on a journey with Gandalf and a gang of dwarf to tame the dwarves ' abandon country of origin .

Alice In Wonderland (1951)

Our only animated entry on this list , 1951 ’s interlingual rendition ofAlice In Wonderlandis a Disney classic . While it might seem an left choice for the list , and possibly even a bit childish as a " child ’s film,“Alice In Wonderlandis anything but a film that only kid can savor . It deals with some sullen subject matter , include psychedelic drug , madness , and general nonsense . That ’s not to say that it is n’t well - suit for tiddler though , because it ’s manage delicately and with much tact . This motion picture is worth watching for much more than just ethnic references .

Stardust

Stardust , a 2008 picture show , is an underrated gem ! It does n’t get talked about often , but when it does , it ’s normally by die - hard sports fan .

It ’s based on a novel by Neil Gaiman , who could be considered a luminary of advanced fantasy in his own right after write the source works for contemporary classics such asGood Omens , American Gods , andThe Sandman . Stardustis visually stunning , with a story that sound like it could have come in out of any old al-Qur’an of fables from yesteryear .

The Dark Crystal

The Dark Crystalis a film release in 1982 . For a film make using puppets from Jim Henson ’s workshop in 1982 , it appear great . Aside from its rather unique visual mode , the film tells an almost completely original story . It also includes tons of Graeco-Roman fantasy archetypes such as The Old Crone , The Hero ’s Journey , and magical items . This film is notably much darker than you might anticipate , but still house - friendly overall .

Conan

take a dramatic shift from some of the moving-picture show mentioned earlier of a more folk nature , Conanis sort of an all - out geographic expedition of the masculine image associated with fantasy . It ’s not thatConanis self - cognizant and doing a cryptic exploration of this kind of thing , in fact , it ’s quite the opposite . Conanis dead a moving-picture show by dudes , for fashion plate . If that ’s your thing though , you really wo n’t be disappointed if you intend to give it a watch . What else would you expect from a fantasy movie asterisk Arnold Schwarzenegger though ?

The Neverending Story

The Neverending Storyis probably the most confused entry on this lean , as opposed toConanwhich knows on the button what it ’s doing . The film starts with our booster being bullied , ignored at home , and loosely knock down on . He settle to steal a book from a depot he fly the coop into , and when he get reading it , he discovers that he ’s the booster . This plot really does get into a metanarrative quickly which may be confuse for most kids , but that ’s not a negative . WhatThe Neverending Storydoes right , it does very well . It ’s just a matter of who ’s watch out it , what they ’re expecting , and what sort of envelopes a children ’s fantasy film can push .

Clash Of The Titans

collide Of The Titansis an old - schooling classic , which is something this list would n’t have been complete without . Not only is this an older film , but it ’s also a steel and sandal feature film , which is trenchant from most of this list since it ’s fantasy with a in spades Greek or Roman boundary , rather than the normal European one we see in most phantasy . If you could get past the cheesy older effects , you ’ll definitely see the spell that this film brings to the table .
