Avengers: Age of Ultron
Marvel’sAvengers : Age Of Ultronwas the secondAvengersouting and an of import milestone in the MCU . It wreak in some Modern hero sandwich , transformed Jarvis into Vision , and lead to the Sokovia accord and the issue of government supervision , which ultimately divided the Avengers down the middle .
Despite its implication and ticket sales , the flick itself failed to capture audiences the way previous picture had , and ended up being overshadow byX - humans : Clarence Shepard Day Jr. Of Future Past . But didAge of Ultronget the kudos and criticism it merit ?
Better: Plot
Although it was n’t particularly well - executed , the game itself had a lot going for it . Most notably , it took the Avengers out of their bubble and pressure them to face politician and public impression , similar to Tony Stark ’s narration inIron military man 2 .
Unfortunately , there was far too much secret plan drum into one movie , so it never get the treatment it merit , but the events ofAge Of Ultrontook MCU storylines in a new direction , spawning some of the saga ’s skillful motion-picture show .
Worse: Storytelling
Phase 2 of the MCU is often moot the worst yet . After hooking audiences and a creation - course of instruction cast with the first round of movies and outsmart the world withThe Avengers , the films began to get lazy and complacent .
The simple , iconic , well - fulfill style of Phase 1 was replaced with a formless series of trailer second string together with niggling care . Age of Ultronwas the bad instance of this . ThankfullyDisneybroke them out of this Casimir Funk and land back the passion .
Better: New Characters
Age Of Ultronbrought in some gripping new characters , and though most were n’t properly utilise in the late films , that ’s on them . Ultron himself was n’t all that interesting , but the picture also fetch us Vision , Scarlett Witch , and Ulysses Klaue . Quicksilver was also introduced though Marvel decided to immediately drink down him off , potential because Fox nailed the character in their movie first .
Vision and Scarlett Witch were both unique and immensely powerful , and brought us some interesting consequence , like Vision lifting Mjolnir and Scarlett Witch planting false visions in the Avengers ' minds , and the thematic liaison between the two .
Worse: Action
While the motion-picture show ’s military action look good on paper , it was middling dissatisfactory . X - MenshowedAge of Ultronup for not putting enough thought into it , with their superior Quicksilver , as well as their higher-ranking , " rive a giant structure out the ground " scene .
Also , the army of no - bet golem Ultron give at the hoagie in the close made for an incredibly boring final fight , with each Avenger nonchalantly pluck the climb up - up cartoons to man .
Better: Visuals
While the movie was n’t particularly active , the visuals themselves were on percentage point . C.G.I characters like Hulk , Iron Man , andUltronlooked better than ever , and the filmmakers were able to use them in more originative and elaborate ways .
eld Of Ultronwasn’t a step - up for the MCU in terms of storytelling , but it was a bighearted pace - up in terms of production value .
Worse: Character Development
With so much going on , there was very little time forany kind of graphic symbol geographic expedition or development . The characters were used more like cat’s-paw , act however the handwriting needed them to instead of how they would act in that situation .
Tony Stark and Bruce Banner were fantastically unscientific , Thor ’s dialog and activity made very minuscule sense , and Ultron was n’t a especially captivating scoundrel . We barely skimmed the surface of what any of the characters were suppose or feeling .
Better: Knowing Its Place
Age of Ultronis up there with theCaptain Americasequels when it comes to accomplish its function in the Infinity Saga . While tardy movie started to go their own way , for better or high-risk , Age Of Ultronmanaged to remain honest to the tone of the series up until that point . The patch also fed off what was set up in the late motion picture , rather than fabricate its own back fib .
Most notably , it started to necessitate large questions of the Avengers and make them take obligation for their actions , a melodic theme that carried through to Phase 3 and the saga ’s finale very effectively .
Worse: Villain
Ultronwas one of the most dissatisfactory villains in the Infinity Saga . He think a lot of himself , but his activity and motivations made very little sense , and the character was so vague about what he wanted he was just used as a plot marionette to make the Avengers go to certain position .
After sending hordes of useless robots after the Avengers for half the pic , he confronts them and announces it ’s prison term to end it , then proceeds to just send more vacuous minions after them .
Better: Performances
While the fictitious character they were impersonate were all over the place this time around , the actors were in okay form , getting more into reference rather than playing for the big moments .
Robert Downey Junior ’s quality work with Tony Stark start to grow more telling around this time , and we set about to see a bit more depth to Chris Evans ' Steve Rogers . Some fun cameos , too , including Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaue . James Spader was wasted on Ultron though .
Worse: Tone
A common image of the MCU is taking a heavy storyline with big implication from the funnies , then cramming it unconvincingly into one feature - length moving-picture show .
This results in a picture show where the graphic symbol take everything a pot more severely than the audience and are forced to incessantly say out loudly how dangerous the spot is because the plastic film is n’t written well enough to portray that . Age Of Ultronwas one such dupe , and as a event , end up one of the most tiresome MCU flick .
