Suicide Squad

TheSuicide Squadmay have been a box part juggernaut and given the mankind Margot Robbie ’s headlining Harley Quinn . But withBirds of Preynow heading towards release , Warner Bros. is cut all ties possible to stir the focus to Harley Quinn ’s future , instead . Sorry , Joker .

This may all be verification at this point , since the piece of writing has been on the wall for month , if not years . AfterSuicide Squadtook a drubbing with critics , the moves to elevate Robbie ’s Harley out of the franchise and into one of her own started almost immediately . Now it seemsJared Leto ’s Joker is over , with prefatory scenes toBirds of Preyconfirming Harley ’s break - up .   It ’s as expressed a impertinent start as audience can be demonstrate before the real picture show arrives . But if there were any incertitude , theBirds of Preyproducer is set them to lie .

Screen Rant had the opportunity to gossip the set ofBirds of Prey ( And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)during production in March , where we spoke with producer Sue Kroll about the new film ’s connections to the existing DCEU . And even ifthe first lagger forBirds of PreyhadSuicide Squadenergy , the prescribed give-and-take is making a clean break with Harley ’s introduction DCEU adventure :

Would you say this film has similarities to Suicide Squad ? Or what are some of the big conflict ?

I do n’t think it has any similarity to Suicide Squad , except that we have Harley at the center of it . I mean her character really is the one that protrude out of Suicide Squad , so all of the amazing things that masses embraced about her we have in our film , and then some . We have this singular chance , correct ? We have two hours , or whatever the movie winds up being , the opportunity to exploit and add dimension and context around what is , I think , arguably one of the world ’s favored characters out of the DC Universe . So she ’s the thing that ’s the same , but other than that it ’s a standalone report . And uniquely its own .

When we last encounter Harley Quinn she was in prison getting go against out by the Joker . Do we witness out how she gets to this point ? Are we going to see the Joker again , and are we going to see that separation ?

Jared Leto as DCEU Joker with Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn in Birds of Prey

Well you ’ll see it in the movie , it ’s a standalone movie , it ’s not connected to Suicide Squad . It ’s not a sequel , it ’s not a continuation of that story . So it has nothing to do with her break out of prison house . But you ’re right , and we ’ve been very upfront that this is about her emancipation . She and the Joker have broken up . This is her personal journey of find with these woman . So it ’s not related at all , so do n’t judge to apply analog logic to how the two go , because they do n’t .

While Kroll ’s words can be read with a rough tone , it should be emphasized that this sentiment , like all others get word during our visit , were intended to clear up up any possible confusion . Yes , Harley Quinn will break up with Jokerbefore the events ofBirds of Preybegin ( in fittingly striking style ) . But in sharp demarcation to the MCU – which is more or less beholden to past missteps or revision , since one film is ramp up on the last – Warner Bros. is jump reinvigorated . It ’s an approach closer to actual comics , in which Harley Quinn is a clearly institute part whose particular status or backstory is explain as part of the latest history .

That may be a harder sell for general audience , but ifSuicide Squad ’s receipt was as big as is now accepted , moviegoer are potential to go with the fresh start . At least , that ’s clearly what Warner Bros. is hop . On the originative side it ’s an obvious perquisite , with author Christina Hodson saying she was essentiallygiven a clean slate for theBirds of Preyscript . But only the film itself can show how willing audience are to pass over   their memories clean just as easily .
