Birds of Prey
There is no question that Huntress was the standout inBirds of Prey ( And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn ) . The iconic team was full of stiff , well - develop female characters - from the wildcard Harley Quinn , to the uncoiled - laced cop Renee Montoya , they all brought their unequalled style and expertise to the chemical group . However , the real scene - thief was Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Helena Bertinelli . Known comfortably to DC fans as Huntress , she managed to reflect despite her relatively small amount of screen sentence .
As a tyke , Helena watch over her menage get gun down by their criminal rivals . She grows up seeking retaliation , training to become a remorseless assassin . After returning to Gotham City , she systematically wipes out everyone responsible for the massacre of her family . Her weapon of choice is a crossbow , which earns her the nickname of " The Crossbow Killer " ( which she hat ) . Her vindictive effort leads her toRoman Sionis’right - deal man , Victor Zsasz , the last outlive public executioner from the twenty-four hours of her sept ’s murder , and she is forced to team up with Harley Quinn and the other Birds of Prey . This is where she finally got the chance to shine .

Winstead found a way to make Huntress , a serious character , into comedic gold . Her penchant for taking herself too seriously led to some laugh out tatty moment . For case , the cutaway where Helena is turn in the " Do you know who I am ? " line repeatedly in her bathroom mirror was delivered to perfection . After spending so much time preparation , Huntress is depict as socially underdeveloped , which made for some great interactions with the other characters . In particular , the banter between Huntress and Black Canary as the Lady prepare to go war with Black Mask ’s US Army is one of the movie ’s best moments .
Being a train bravo , one would strike that Huntress would be capable of some epic fighting . boo of Preydid not let down on the action front , giving Winstead plenty of sentence to show off the fruits of her preparation . Early on we get to see her lethal marksmanship with the crossbow , but it ’s not until the terminal Amusement Mile battle that she finally gets to play out her greatest hits . Her fighting trend was speedy and decisive , thanks to her years of pattern , providing a nice dividing line to the less professional strategies of her allies . However , one of the highlights is a more chaotic moment when she rides an attacker down a slide , stabbing him all the way .
As far ascomparisons to her comic Holy Writ rootsgo , theDCEU ’s Huntress is a mixed udder . This is n’t necessarily a bad matter , but much of her characterization has been altered to fitBirds of Prey . Her inception story stay largely integral ; away from the cellular inclusion of Zsasz , the discrepancies are minimum . Her costume is not a direct adaptation from the comic strip , but the opprobrious and purple color outline is close to the source material . Helena Bertinelli is traditionally violent , with a quick temper . Winstead managed to take the DC comics lynchpin and bring her to the swelled concealment in a faithful yet modernised way .
This is not to take anything away from the other member of the team , who were all fantastic in their ways and played off one another very well . However , none were as multifaceted as Huntress , whose origins and personality are built up very effectively out of very little dialogue and just a couple of flashbacks . Should this photographic film breed a sequel , Winstead ’s take on the character has more than realise a place in the glare . Harley Quinn may beBirds of Prey ’s centerpiece , but Huntress was a real star of the squad .
