Was it a no - brainer to also harness ‘ the final Captain Marvel narration ’ ?
Kelly Thompson : I low - key fruit would have been fuming if Marvel had n’t pay me a hazard to write this Carol report ! That said , I was hesitating as we start , it was almost like there was too much tractability . But as presently as I initiate getting into what it could be and the emotional shock , I knew we had something special , particularly since we had Carmen Carnero draw it . It ’s so excited and so much of that is down to Carmen . I end up just loving the world we built here , I honestly wish I could do a whole series set in 2051 with those characters . Y’know what ? Your current streak of Captain Marvel is n’t lacking in twists , visitation , and standout moments . But how do you even begin to order a story that is literally ‘ The terminal ’ of a character you love ?
KT : I just attempt to go back to the thing I believe are the core of Carol Danvers – the cosmic exploration , the never give up spirit of her , the deep and bear love she has for her champion , the ego - sacrifice that comes so by nature to her . When you lend all of that to the way I knew she could and should level up over time in a taradiddle like this – it all just accrue together really naturally
Can you speak about that process , of taking all of the character workplace and geographic expedition of Carol that I ’m sure you had already been doing , but then project that out almost half a C ? Was it a case of cut through the Carol you ’re writing now , or assay to say a tarradiddle that can stand alone on its own ?
KT : Well , it ’s not half a hundred , that was a misunderstanding in the solicit , it ’s coiffe in 2051 . So for readers it ’s not 50 years in the time to come but 31 years in the hereafter . I cerebrate Carol in “ The End ” is sure enough consistent with the character I ’m write in Captain Marvel now … but a set has happened to her in those intervene year – both undecomposed and bad . When we first see her she ’s in another galaxy , still defend for justice , and she ’s fundamentally left earth , and almost her world itself behind . She ’s magnificent but more closed off and lonesome than the Carol we knew . More heedful and melancholy … more distant . And then something exchange that .

KT : Well , as mentioned , the solicit is a morsel shoddy . I would say that she has already BEEN into the deepest reaches of the cosmos to spread peace and DoJ , and now , something mysterious is bringing her home base .
This series is also a reunion for yourself and Carmen Carnero , so was that partnership just as you had left it ? I know fan of your work are going to have their upheaval for ‘ The destruction ’ further a bit eminent , so what can you assure us about working with Carmen , and what ’s in storage for the visuals ?
KT : The with child matter was that Carmen started this very soon after she wrap her Captain Marvel electric arc , so I did n’t have time to drop her … but as we wind this level up I am very aware of how much I ’m going to leave out her . peculiarly because , no exaggeration , I am certain this is the best oeuvre of her career . It ’s a very demanding handwriting with a ton of emotion and some big action , and a bunch of world building and theatrical role cameo – and the design employment that comes with that . She always blows me away with her body of work , but this was next grade . I was tearing up when looking at her inked page as I did a inscription pass on the script .
I think the idea of Carol ‘ develop ’ into a new kind of character follow across in the concealment art immediately , with a new , more cosmic Captain Marvel uniform and design . Can you speak about the process of creating this really breathtaking look for Carol ? What is the message readers should take from the new conception ?
KT : This edition of Carol has very much even out up . She has germinate into a form that is sort of beyond just being Carol . For aim we wanted something that still felt like Carol and had her Hala Star because it ’s so core to the character , but we wanted her to present more as a cosmic being … a goddess even . Mostly I transport text to report what we were direct for , but I did include a pile of the more wild aged Binary designs . These day when we show Carol super powered up and “ going Binary ” it ’s just presented as fire , but I do it the old Binary stuff – the sort of white hot glowing form – that feeling that she ’s beyond just human now , y’know ?
