A form of eery , industrial fog rove through the metropolis at all hours . The skies of Gotham are a dark , eerie red . It always feel like Nox - time . The metropolis itself should be apposition of strange Art - Deco insanity by agency of Anton Furst and Tim Burton , and silklike modernistic column that somehow look MORE terrible . Strange in high spirits tech skyscraper cathedral , complete with sleek modern gargoyles .
It ’s a young industrial years in the urban center , and people are walk around covering their mouths to not breathe in the smogginess . Construction dust shine like snow around the city . It ’s a unknown and set apart place . Weirdly , I ’d think of the people of Gotham City as “ under twist ” in their own way . I ’ll be calling this out in the script , but I see more people with casts and leg brace . hoi polloi damage , but trying to bring around . Even the agency people wrap their nerve to move through the streets is a kind of “ bandaging ” .
Gotham is not New York City . It is a incubus of New York City . It should n’t feel like a real city , it should sense like GOTHAM . It ’s the grunge and gritstone of the 1970s and fourscore in a universe where the urban center never got cleaned up , but kept growing . Now it needs to become something newfangled … But the eery sense needs to be that it might become something even more atrocious than before . We ’re make a present day dystopia that will serve as the bridgework to what ’s next . Every ingredient of it should be visually active and exciting .
