Doctor Octopus is a classicSpider - valet villainand arguably one of the most recognisable bad bozo in the entire Marvel cosmos . However , that ’s not to say he has n’t date his own changes - from his fourth dimension as theSuperior Spider - Manto his days as the Superior Octopus in a cloned body of Peter Parker , aiding Hydra during theSecret Empire . And now , readers ofAvengers of the Wasteland#3can catch a glimpse of what the time to come has in store for Otto Octavius , and it is not pretty .
A tidy sum has happened in the reality of the Wastelands – the place apocalyptic future that commence when the world ’s scoundrel united and collectively wiped out nearly all topnotch heroes . Dr. Doom rules the Wastelands that were once the United States . Wolverineand hisOld Man Loganfuture ego may have been the original tale billet that brought the Wastelands to lifetime , but this world has develop into much more , with its own rich character .

In theAvengers of the Wasteland # 3 , Dr. Doom is fighting against the resistance of the Wasteland , and with the rise of anew team of AvengersDoom demand to make move to guarantee Otto will not interfere is the coming New World Order that even Doom did not see descend . Dr. Doom sees Otto as a barbarian scorecard that he can not risk leaving on the board . raise that even the brawny Dr. Doom picture Doc Oc as a menace .
Doom finds Otto in Schenectady , his home base in the Wastelands , where he has apparently been for a long clip . This has angered Doom , since Otto aid Doom and the other villains in overthrowing the fighter and world government . Dr. Doom could have used Doc Oc ’s scientific maven in building their new world , but instead Otto retreated to Schenectady and decided to survive as a hermit .
When Doom finds Dr. Octopus , it is immediately recognisable that something about the villain has changed . His vocalisation appears more electronic than we are used to – but he is wearing a helmet and a full body lawsuit , so maybe he has added more tech to himself to acompany his arms . As Doom moves to eliminate Doc Oc as a variable outside of his control , Otto fails to deliver any banter as they fight . plainly pronounce Doom has 30 sec leaves , and starts a countdown . The telling engagement that ensues proves Doom should not only be threatened by Otto ’s nous , but his ability as well . Of course , Doom land the ostensibly kill blast on Dr. Octopus , punching a hole through his chest , and rend his fresh armor off from his body . But Otto keeps look down . It is here that the future of Otto Octavius is revealed , and it ’s not pretty .
What can only be described as a stalk of his original self is suspended inbetween the iconic mechanically skillful arms of Dr. Octopus . The skeletal corpse of the once great villain prove that Otto is no more , and his mechanically skillful arms have become sentient , continuing to live on without the mind of Otto himself . And without the mind of Otto behind the arms , Doom no longer realize Dr. Octopus as a threat .
This offer an account as to why Otto would dissemble out of character and hide for so many years after such a triumph against the world ’s heroes . If Otto fall ominous to a sickness he knew would take his life , his pride would have never let anyone see him in a vulnerable state . A physical malady he would have been able to in all probability plow , as his appearance has never been an issuing to him – out of contour military personnel with a bowl cutting ? patently not concerned with his appearance . But if his thinker started to break down , well that is something the egotistical scoundrel would not allow others to see . So he back out to Schenectady where he expire , and the AI that operates his arms evolved to a point where they could fully function without Otto and his mind .
This is a truly dreadful twist for the fictional character that we can only question if readers will get to experience the fall of Otto Octavius that would lead to such an awed final state .
