I can only guess how daunting a task it is to live up toThe Shining , Stanley Kubrick ’s movie , but this does it . It ’s awe-inspiring . But I got ta ask : your first day on solidification is in Bruce Greenwood ’s part , and that is the refreshment of the office from the Overlook Hotel . When you get there , what ’s the first thing that goes through your thinker when you take the air in ?

Ewan McGregor : Well , your first 24-hour interval on set is very much about discovering the film ; discovering the vibration with the crew and the vibe of the director . You ’ve no idea how a director is going to work until you begin working with them . you could have as many encounter as you wish and rehearsal , but until you ’re on set , you do n’t know [ if ] we ’re die to be doing 50 takes or going to be doing 2 takes . You do n’t lie with how you ’re locomote to palpate in the part , and often in those first few days , you ’re not quite there yet .

You have to start trifle scenes in fiat to feel like the character . And often the first scene you shoot , you ’re still you ’re still a fleck pugnacious around the edge . On top of that , here we are recreating a very famous scene from The Shining – and really reanimate it . I try not to bear too much attention to what they were doing , because it ’s probably not very helpful for the role player to know exactly , but the shots are the same nip ; the lens is the same electron lens . They ’re revivify that fit as a sorting of subliminal court , if you care , in the heart of the film .

Danny in Doctor Sleep.

It was interesting for that to be the first scene , but also I have it away working with him . He was great . And I think we were both – I think in those situations , on the first Clarence Day , your other actor [ and you ] are just sort of locked into each other . And that ’s your security , being capable to roleplay the fit with that other actor . That ’s where you feel safe . Everything else can feel a routine chilling , but that ’s hunky-dory .

This is a large subsequence , not only toThe Shiningfilm , but also to theDoctor Sleepbook as well because it plays both ways . Are you surprised where Danny ends up at the remnant of the film ? I do n’t want to give anything away .

Ewan McGregor : Well … Yes . And I go for the audience are too .

Danny looks through the hole his father cut in Doctor Sleep

I hope so too . I got ta ask aStar Warsquestion , because that ’s a gravid thing . We know you occur back as Obi - Wan . If you could bring back any quality to this journeying and this Obi - Wan serial with you , who would that fictional character be ?

Ewan McGregor : Oh , I ca n’t … I do n’t bed . If I say anything , it ’s function to go ballistic .

It ’s your view , not saying it ’s actually extend to happen . If you could add back any of those theatrical role , who would it be ?

Doctor Sleep

Ewan McGregor : Well , it ’s not down to me to bring them back . If I open my backtalk , it ’s just gon na go bonkers . Jar Jar .

There you go . Jar Jar Binks , confirmed by Ewan McGregor .

Ewan McGregor : You see what I signify ?

The performances of the original cast , how did that help your carrying into action as Danny ?

Ewan McGregor : I watched the film , obviously , inside out just because I ’m spell-bound by it and I ’m fascinate by Kubrick . It was really interesting to watch a moving-picture show that you bonk fresh , because you ’re taking that tale forth and playing one character from that movie .

You start exploring it in a weird and marvellous way ; being in the art section , looking at the sets , and then take care at some of the documentaries that have been made about Kubrick ’s making of that film . There ’s a not bad kind of conspiracy hypothesis documentary film about The Shining which is bonkers – you know the style that the corridors could n’t lead to where they lead to , and that room could n’t have been there ? And there they are in the art department , trying to image out , “ Well , what do we do ? Do we honor that , or do we make it do work ? ”

So , it was really interesting . More than anything , I was determine Jack because I need to be probably his Word . You know , this story is so much about Danny ’s relationship with his sire , and what variety of impact would that have on you as a lilliputian son to go through that experience with your founder and then misplace your don ? And be the victim of his violence and be the victim of his potomania , and then to become alcoholic yourself ? To sort of wassail all of that emotional muddle inside of him .

I wanted to feel that Jack was present somehow , so I tried to sound a bit like him . Because I think we do sound like our fathers . We ca n’t really help it . We ’ve got their representative in us somehow . And so I watched a lot of him , you recognize .

You strike hard it out of the park .
