There were never any intention to admit Johnny Depp inThe Invisible Man(2020 ) , nor were there architectural plan for connectedness to the   Dark Universe . The previous adaptation of the H.G. Wells classic , The Invisible Man , is schedule for spill on February 28th . The Invisible Manhas already been receivingrave reviews from criticsand is currently " Certified Fresh " on Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 91 % . Developed by Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions , the revulsion reboot starsElisabeth Mossand Oliver Jackson - Cohen .

Universal ’s   Dark Universe is the company ’s attempt to create a shared , cinematic existence go around around classic monsters . Despite a few tries to jumpstart the franchise ,   it was in the end stillborn . This   initially includedDracula Untold(2014 ) , but after the movie   was meet   with motley to negative review , it was left out of the   Dark Universe . In 2017 , Universal try again withThe Mummyreboot , which also   received a damaging critical response .   There were initially plan for   Johnny Depp to star in an version ofThe Invisible Man , but it never happen .

In a recent episode of CinemaBlend’sReelBlend podcast , boniface Kevin McCarthy interviewedThe Invisible Manwriter and   director Leigh Whannell .   McCarthy asked the theatre director where the Dark Universe was when   Whannell first met with Universal and Blumhouse White House to discussThe Invisible Man . In response , Whannell articulate , " It had n’t been mentioned . " McCarthy survey by ask if there was any mention at all about the Modern Blumhouse film being connected to the divvy up existence .   Whannell resolve , " No , nothing . And it was only ever treated as a standalone film . "

Whannell continued , " At no stage did someone call me and say ' oh hey , by the fashion , we ’d screw it if we could have a cameo from Dr. Jekyll in the film ' or ' we ’d love if you could derive in and take care at some of our plans . ' It was only ever treated by Universal as a standalone film , and they were so supportive of it and had a lot of nifty approximation , these people are really impertinent people , so a pile of the bank note I was getting from them were help the film . " McCarthy then asked for confirmation that Depp was never require in   Whennell ’s version .   The theatre director answer , " No . "

Universal ’s determination to make a smaller picture , not tied down to the share Dark Universe , await to have been a successful one . With positive reviews still coming in , it seems that the reimagined repugnance story will be a much bigger hit than Universal ’s previous attempts at remaking . While the future of the   Dark Universe looks bleak , there ’s a lot of promise in alike , standalone movies likeThe Invisible Man .
