The Hunt
Blumhouse Productions has built a reputation for controversial and idea - provoking horror films , but perhaps none have reached the heights of controversy thatThe Hunthas . The movie revolves around a radical of so - call liberals who round up several " deplorables " for their own take on the Most Dangerous Game .
After closely being cancel , it ’s eventually being released this weekend despite many audience members not wanting to move past their first opinion . coincidently , The Huntis in large part about first impressions . That ’s the very affair that made Ike Barinholtz(The MindyProject ) want to be part of the task , and it ’s an irony that manufacturer Jason Blum is well mindful of .

Blum and Barinholtz both shared their reaction to the moving-picture show and its journeying in a late interview with Screen Rant , in prediction ofThe Hunt ’s long - awaited loss .
Well , felicitation onThe Huntfinally coming out . When you first got the playscript , were you expecting this kind of response to it ? Was it on fair game , or was it way overboard ?
Jason Blum : No , no . We did not expect the response that we got the first time around . And I like we ’d gotten a dissimilar response , and I wish we ’d already released the movie . But it happened , and so here we are .
Now you are a author and director yourself , Ike . Did you take anything away from this experience that will help you in future task ?
Ike Barinholtz : Yes . The next time I want to direct a moving-picture show , just have Craig Zobel do it . Because he ’s good than me .
No , I really did [ learn from ] watching Craig , and also reading what Damon and Nick make . Every time you work on something estimable , you hopefully take a picayune piece of it . Yeah , I think I learned a quite a little from those guy wire .
How important was it for both of you to flip the expectations ? There ’s the humanizing of the hunted , but it ’s also the fact that the rich elite are almost more ridiculous than the people we thought were being lampoon .
Jason Blum : I think it was authoritative for us to make sport of both face equally . The picture show ’s coolheaded and exciting and funny , and it ’s also about the extremes on both sides of the aisle and how those extremes are n’t awfully productive .
Ike Barinholtz : And I think too , if we did n’t do any flipping - if we did n’t do any subversive activity , and it was just kind of this bountiful elites are hunt super whatever people , " it would be terrible .
Congratulations on the success ofThe Invisible Man , as well . Do you have any thoughts on that lead into more flick in an autonomous Dark Universe ?
Jason Blum : No , I do n’t . But I would love to do more movies with the universe of discourse of monster , for sure . We have no plan immediately , but I would love to do more .
Ike , what call you to Staten Island specifically ?
Ike Barinholtz : You love , when I first take it , I think at first they were like , " Well , you could be one of the elite group . " I was like , " No , no . I want to be one of these guys . " Because I wanted to spring in that mind-set ; I wanted to make the audience unsure of who I am , and keep having them kind of seesaw back and forth . Like , " Oh , I do n’t wish this guy . Oh , I do like this guy . "
The thinking of being able to playact that someone just derail out at me . I was like , " I have n’t represent that guy yet . " And this is the staring playscript for it . So yeah , I really want it .
