I Still Believe
The Erwin brothers , who have brought several faith - inspired stories to life history onscreen over the last decade , are gift their latest tribute to true dearest this weekend withI Still think . base on the lifespan of Christian singer - songster Jeremy Camp and his first married woman Melissa , the film chronicles the heartache of a lovemaking recede as well as the strength it takes to carry on .
Jon and Andrew Erwin sat down with Screen Rant to deal what moved them to make Camp ’s memoir into a movie , and what the ambiance was like on set .
It ’s a neat film . There ’s a lot to it . It ’s not just a religion - ground movie , it ’s also a not bad love affair and a beloved news report . I know that you guy did n’t need to do another biopic whatever , but you guys seat down with Jeremy . How did this all come together ?
Jon Erwin : It ’s all about the power of the tarradiddle for us . That ’s why we get up in the morning . It ’s just to tell stories that that are entertaining and relatable , no matter what you believe , but that really work people hope and a gumption of inhalation and purpose . It ’s all about what happens when we run across the story , first and firstly .
And so we sit down with Jeremy and Adrienne Camp , and he start to tell the story of his first dear , Melissa . It was just this gorgeous , altruistic , beautiful love narrative . And it was riveting ; five hours of just talking and interview them . We were cry , they were crying , and I just feel in the elbow room , the same sense of hope - a rush of Bob Hope that we felt when we had interview Bart Miller , that led to the film I Can Only Imagine . And we just feel like , " We have to do this . This is our next photographic film . "
We were n’t looking for it , but it was so powerful , and I mean so relatable . And I ca n’t wait for the audience to feel what we felt that first day , as the plastic film rolls out .
Andrew Erwin : And there was something just universally relatable to the honey story , like you said . We judge to do story that are entertaining , no matter of what you believe , and that have an entree point that somebody can take from it [ wherever ] they ’re at in their life .
But with this story , I hold out in very skeptical because I did n’t require to do another medicine story and that type of affair . But what really sold me on it was : Jeremy was describing Melissa , and he said that she said , " If one living was exchange by what I go through , it ’s worth it . " And then we got to the end after interviewing him for a while , and we interview his married woman now , Adrienne . I require her , " How can you hear to your husband talk about another woman for three hours and not have a hint of green-eyed monster ? " And she said , " Let me be very clear-cut . I ’m very protective over Jeremy and Melissa ’s story because it changed my lifetime . It was something I needed to pick up . " And I looked at Jon , and I was like , " We ’re doing this movie . "
Jon Erwin : Yeah , it ’s incredible .
Jeremy was there almost every day on set . I know that it ’s one thing to narrate the story - he ’s been a big counselor of tell apart the tale - but it ’s another thing to relive it . determine KJ and Britt live over some of the thing that he plump through , can you talk to me about that experience a little bit ?
Jon Erwin : Jeremy and his whole syndicate were there for most of the pic , and they just infused dearest into the whole experience . And it was contagious . It was just so amazing just for their heart to be such a part of the carrying out in the film and what went on behind the photographic camera , because they ’re so smashing .
Jeremy Camp ’s an amazing guy , and I call back it was difficult for him to live over some of the moments in the moving-picture show , and yet having him there made all the conflict in the world . And I think he just infused the film with something very special and something very authentic and very real . particularly in his relationship with KJ Apa . I think of , they really bonded , and you feel so much of Jeremy in KJ ’s performance , and I think that was because he was there most of the time .
Andrew Erwin : Another person that was on set with him some was Bart Miller , that we did the narrative I Can Only Imagine about . Bart ’s an EP on the story , and so Bart was able to kind of give him a heads up of , " These are bit that are plump to be great , and these are going to be moments are gon na be difficult , and this is how you pilot both . " And so I retrieve he was an asset to him to be capable to navigate , because there ’s sure atrocious moments of story that are word for discussion from that initial audience with him . check it dramatise and brought to life definitely was jarring at points for him , but he matte like we got the unity of the history right and was very , very proud .
You guy wire did an awful job . KJ and Britt , amazing task . They brought a lot to this .
Andrew Erwin : They ’re so right .
Jon Erwin : The chemistry between KJ and Britt is extraordinary in this film . For me , just watch them accrue in lovemaking with each other onscreen is just so entertaining and so relatable , and it just suck you in . They ’re awesome together in this movie , and I ’m so lofty of what they brought to the moving-picture show .
