InThe Lord of the Rings , as with most series , the characters go on some variety of journeying where they change in one way or another . For some role , this arc mean becoming a good person or a more mature and fresh .
For others , their character journeying has them become a worse person or more villainous . InThe Lord of the Ringsmovies , there are some characters who get skilful over the course of the serial and others that get worse .
Better: Merry and Pippin
When the series commence , Merry and Pippinare both young Hobbits that do n’t have any experience in the world . They are immature and wish to get up to mischief , and they do n’t really reckon things through .
Over the course of the series , they are draw to turn up quickly and memorise to give to help others . They end the series having been through a lot , and this reach them wiser and less naive .
Worse: Bilbo Baggins
Over the course of bothThe HobbitandThe Lord of the Rings , Bilbo Baggins goes through a prospicient journeying . He starts out as a Hobbit who enjoys the simple thing in living and then goes on a heavy adventure .
When readers see him at the beginning of the Fellowship of the Ring , he ’s become comfortable with his riches that he have at the death of The Hobbit . He ’s more eccentric in his sometime age , and he ’s passably oblivious to the things that go on related to the Ring .
Better: Gimli
Gimli starts out seeming somewhat of just comic relief , and , while he does work this way for much of the series in the movies , he ’s more than that .
While dwarves might not seem as interesting or attractive as hob , Gimli shows just how interesting and worthful they can be . Gimli grows to watch to have Legolas and other elves , and he does go through some lineament growth as the series goes on .
Worse: Frodo Baggins
Frodo Baggins is a character who goes through a lot , so , while he does get worse in some way , it ’s hard to blame him . He begin out as a rather privileged , subject Hobbit , and he catch a huge load placed upon him .
Because of the ordeal of being the Ringbearer , he is severely traumatized . While this does n’t make him a unsound person in any way , he becomes less relatable and more treated and cold to the worldly concern . He ’s definitely someone who suffers a lot .
Better: Aragorn
In theLord of the Ringsmovies , Aragorn ’s journeying from Ranger to King of Gondor is a fully grown part of the patch . His fictitious character arc is one of the main focuses of the films . Aragorn start up out as a good character , but he is denying who he is and his fate . He does n’t want to take up the leadership mantle that he needs to .
Over the course of the series , he grows to accept that he is needed and all important to carrying humans forward . He becomes even wiser and more caring over time .
Worse: Legolas
Legolas is a character that does n’t needs get worse , but he also does n’t get a good deal of character development . Because of this , he seems to mostly stay the same over metre . But , since modification is what makes a role arc interesting , his stagnancy becomes more obtrusive .
The movies mostly seemed to just utilize Legolas for some awesome stunts in fight , but he does n’t have much of a story beyond that . This does n’t mean he is n’t right or important , but he just does n’t have much of a beat back spark that makes him compelling .
Better: Eowyn
When audiences first suffer Eowyn , she is in a bad place . Saruman has control of Theoden , and Eowyn is alone and support . There ’s also the fact that she is being provoke and bothered by Grima Wormtongue who clearly has less than noble idea about her .
Eowyn goes from being someone who wants to be able to fight back and make a difference but is told she ca n’t because of her gender , to being a rough person who toss off the Witch - King .
Worse: Gandalf
This might be a second of a controversial judgement as by some measuresGandalfdoes get good as the serial lead on . He becomes more brawny after his shift into Gandalf the White , and he is an substantive part of the War of the Ring .
However , there is something particularly lovable and challenging about Gandalf the Grey that is lose after this shift . Gandalf becomes less relatable and loftier . While he is more muscular , he also seems less real .
Better: Samwise Gamgee
Samwise Gamgee starts out seeming like a rather simple-minded , boring Hobbit , but he raise himself to be one of the brave and strongest character from the serial publication . Sam is firm , patriotic , and hardy .
He does n’t falter when he set himself on a chore , and he is thegreatest frienda somebody could have . He is very important in helping Frodo make it to Mount Doom . Sam shows his dead on target vividness , and they are really telling . He ’s a character reference that has a great arc and is also underestimate by many sports fan .
Worse: Saruman
Saruman record who he really is reasonably betimes on in this serial when he bring out himself to be in league with Sauron . He definitely goes from salutary to bad by turning to the dark side .
However , Saruman continue to pass from there as he creates his own army of Uruk - Hai . He continually shows how dark and evil he has become , but he gets his just desserts in the end . Saruman forsake his commission as one of the Istari as he was sent to Middle - Earth to help with the fight against Sauron , and he becomes a baddie almost as forged as Sauron in the goal .
