So what ’s it like playing an NPC ?
Good interrogation . Having done that now and also in actual video games , but specially with a moving-picture show , which emphasise the fact that I am an NPC , it ’s somewhere between human and A.I. - and you ’ve got a keep him as human as potential because in his mind he is real . But for the interview , they want to know that he is n’t . But what is tangible ? That is the prominent question . Because he ’s certainly physically there , and when you ’re in the Jumanji world , he is physique - and - bone real . But he keeps repeating himself because he ’s only got a few things he can say . So , you have intercourse , I ca n’t ad-lib . I ca n’t offer any more advice than the stuff I am projected to say . So it ’s a eldritch persona , especially for me . I like to come off the script , and so does every comical actor . The fact that I ca n’t is rather confine . But it ’s also a bully challenge .
Since you only have a few line to say and you repeat them sometimes , how do you prevent yourself from changing the flection or saying something dissimilar , in a different style , to someone else ?
One of the merriment things that I can do that you ’re not supposed to do in acting is to just ignore everyone else . So it ’s kind of the interdict affair : if you improvise or if you act , you really got to be in the scene and mind to everyone . When you start off , it ’s unvoiced to do that , because you ’re just remembering your line of business . But of course , good actors know their lines and they become part of the scene like it ’s a real occurrent . As an NPC , the advice is to ignore all that and pretty much just ignore them . When there ’s a gap in their talking , that ’s probably your turn to just lecture . Because if you start listening , you ’re influence to just nod and be interested in what they ’re saying , but Nigel really is n’t .
Were there any lines you go to choose from or when you record the hand it was just that one line and you had to go with it ?
That ’s it . I mean the lines are there . It ’s written really well . I give the advice he as to give . There ’s some play stuff to say and , you know , especially in this Next Level one there ’s some really flowery information to give birth , which makes no sense until you ’re really attending the adventure . In the destruction , things amount to light . There ’s always comedy , but even though I do it performing comedy and this character is sort of quite straight , his essence is funny . The things he aver are laughable , and he says it in such a way with such a smile that you ca n’t help but laugh . So I managed to get funniness into it .
At the end of this moving picture , they ’re manifestly setting up bringing everything into the real cosmos . How do you intend Nigel would react if he was in the real world ?
I am hoping that , yeah , he will be in the real world because then he ’ll have to be real , correct ? Then , hopefully , he will become an constitutional homo - at least for that clip while he ’s in there - and will be capable to say more than what he ’s programmed to . Because then the program will go out the windowpane and he ’ll be like , " What is this ? Where are we ? " Who knows ? That ’s going to be the magic if it ever happens . It will fall out , right ? It will happen .
Do you think he ’ll have an existential crisis if he becomes human suddenly ?
perchance . Or he will have all of this complete ground knowledge of what he really is . Who acknowledge ? He may have ended up in the Jumanji cosmos and we ’re just chew over by stroke . And possibly he is actual and then became an NPC because he stay in there too long . I ’m give the writers ideas now .
[ Laughs ] It ’s a big breath . If he was just an embodiment , what do you think his strengths and weaknesses would be ?
If he was … his strengths would be transport , like driving [ laughs ] , local cognition of terrain , and I think survival skills . And his weakness would be , I conceive , societal variety of - deficiency of social accomplishment .
Socially inept ?
[ Laughs ] Yeah ! Exactly , yeah . So in a billet where they ’re in problem and you need to get some advice to find out something , I think Nigel would say the wrong thing or would address to the wrong person . So maybe he ’s that , but other than that , I entail hail on … skilled to max . Maybe not in fighting , but decidedly in getting away quickly in a fomite .
