It feel like only yesterday that Disney announced we ’d be getting another Star Wars trilogy , years after we thought we ’d see the saga conclude with 2005’sRevenge of the Sith . With many choosing to favor the original three movies over the prequels that George Lucas put together at the showtime of the millennium , Disneywas under pressure to get things veracious . for certain , it would be no well-situated job .
And , while they ’ve done that on many fronts , they ’ve also been accused of fail to make the most of the glorious opportunity they had . So we now take a look at 10 missed opportunities for the subsequence trilogy , start with one of the most obvious .
Getting The Gang Back Together

Luke Skywalker
Let ’s face it , Disney really did mass up Luke Skywalker . That ’s nothing against Rian Johnson as an mortal but the character reference we see inThe Last Jedi- who bail on his friends and refuse to help somebody who really involve it - is nothing like the same hero who light up Hollywood during the late 1970s and early 1980s .
They could have made Luke the most powerful Jedi around but it seems any more evolving of his character was sacrificed so that the new mortal like Rey , Finn , and Poe could get their second in the glare . A character as full-grown as Luke should NEVER have to dally second fiddle and , while he ’s a bit more like his old self inThe Rise of Skywalker , it ’s a display case of too little , too late .
A Brand New Threat
At the remainder ofReturn of the Jedi , the Galaxy was jubilant at the drop of the Empire with the celebration erupting with vigor . At the goal ofThe acclivity of Skywalker , be Emperor Palpatine ’s defeat and the end of the First Order , similar scenes take place .
And that speak volumes . Disney could have introduced a trade name raw scourge but , alternatively , they rehashed George Lucas ' previous ideas . The First Order was essentially the Empire - they have a leader in a scarey black mask and millions of stormtroopers at their electric pig - and that means they ’re the same old menace as before . Nobody was fooled into think the First Order was ever exit to win , too , which is different from the Empire . You genuinely thought back in the day that there ’s a chance the spoilt guys could crow but , nope , none of that here .
Supreme Leader Snoke
Voiced by the glorious Andy Serkis , Supreme Leader Snoke was a genuinely intriguing villain when he first appeared inThe Force Awakens . So challenging , in fact , that fan drop the two year after that blockbuster coming up with their own theories about who he was and what his origin should be .
Among the most unpopular , however , was the idea that he was a clone or puppet of Palpatine ’s . He just seemed too good , too magnetic , to be a laughingstock . And yet , that ’s exactly what Disney did . or else of creating a fresh chief villain , they resorted back to the same one George Lucas had defeat off many years ago . That just seems like bad writing and highlights a deficiency of planning on their part . Was Palpatine really mean to be the end game ? Looking at the two motion picture beforeThe Rise of Skywalker , we ’re not confident .
General Hux
stick with things First Order related ( hint , we ’re not finish just yet ) it ’s safe to say that General Hux regressed as a character in bothThe Rise of SkywalkerandThe Last Jedi , having come along so unforgivably queasy during his introduction appearance in 2015’sThe Force Awakens .
In the first flick of the subsequence trilogy , he belittles Kylo Ren , pleases Supreme Leader Snoke and mishandle up the New Republic using outstanding power on Starkiller Base . He seemed like he was set to be the Grand Moff Tarkin of the continuation trilogy , someone bad to the os . Yet that did n’t happen . After Hux was made a funniness physical body in TLJ , he accede out with a whine in TROS where it ’s reveal he ’s a spy . That seems out of character and , to make matter worse , Kylo Ren does n’t even down him . Even though , give their relationship , that should have been an obvious thing to have to happen .
Force Ghosts
At the end of 1983’sReturn of the Jedi , we knew of three force ghosts in existence at least . Anakin Skywalker , Yoda and Obi - Wan Kenobi all secure themselves a courteous glistening blue outline and , in the prequels , it was revealed that Qui - Gon Jinn had attain the exploit as well .
So where did they go when the First Order business was kicking off ? Where was Anakin while his grandfather incorrectly worship the Darth Vader side of his character ? The fact they did n’t appear whatsoever is genuinely mystifying . It was cool to see Luke Skywalker and Leia cut through over to the other side but , give this is the final instalment of the Skywalker saga , the loser to include any of the other force ghosts is up there with Disney ’s very worst .
Romance
Whether you care it or not , Star Wars has always had romance within its movies . In the original trilogy there was the Han , Luke and Leia love triangle and , in the prequels , we had to watch Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala shine for each other - despite their relationship being forgiven .
Kylo Ren and Rey switch a candy kiss at the destruction but that ’s it . Even Reylo fans were enraged and we also find the conclusion to completely ignore Finn and Rose Tico ’s kiss at the end ofThe Last Jedifeels off too . love affair does n’t have to be the main plot of ground power point but Disney missed out on the chance to give fans of the genre something to be happy about .
Making Kylo Ren Unique
At the oddment ofThe Last Jedi , it looked as if Star Wars had decided to give Kylo Ren a different arc to grandfather Darth Vader . He looked beyond the point of redemption , having snubbed the offer to side with Rey , and fans were hoping he ’d remain evil to the oddment .
Yet Disney chose to alternatively have Kylo deliver , with Palpatine then becoming the giving villain forThe Rise of Skywalker . This have in mind that Ben Solo ’s electric arc resound Vader ’s , with him falling to the black side - and then embracing the twinkle once again - before become flat . The one low conflict is we did n’t even get to see Ben ’s violence ghost …
Delving Deeper Into Finn’s Arc
When we first met Finn at the root ofThe Force Awakens , he seemed challenging . We ’d never seen a stormtrooper revolt against his villainous arrangement and we recollect this would think of John Boyega ’s fictional character get into all sorting of interesting situations .
Except his stormtrooper past was repel for the entirety ofThe Last Jediand , byThe Rise of Skywalker , it ’s too little too tardily .
