This week   was the domain premiere of the final installment in the sequel trilogy ofStar Wars : The Rise of Skywalker . We’re just day awayfrom the handout escort here in the United States . One of the big questions still on most of our minds ( everyone , except   those trolls going around dropping raider like they have nothing else to hold out for ) is does Kylo Ren ,   aka Ben Solo , deserve redemption ?

This question continues to harry fan , but we ’ve done our best to count both sides . Here are some reason we cerebrate Kylo Ren should be redeemed and why he should n’t .

He Should: Didn’t Kill Leia

InThe Last Jedi , the Rebels think they have managed to escape the clutch of The First Order , only to discover that they have place a trailing gadget on the lead Resistance ship . An fire is returned by The First Order include Kylo Ren . However , when the meter occur for him to take the dig that will most certainly end his female parent , Leia , Kylo hesitates and his wingmen take out much of the lead Resistance ship .

This is shortly after he has been told by Supreme Leader Snoke that he is weak , and if ever Kylo Ren need a moment to establish otherwise , this would have been it . But , Kylo Ren is distinctly not too far gone and exercises restraint . We ’re not trusted how Leia ’s story will wrap up in Episode IX ( RIP Carrie Fisher ) , but we ’re happy it did n’t finish at that instant .

He Shouldn’t: Killed Han

One of the most exciting moments inThe Force Awakenswas the return of Han Solo and his trustworthy carbon monoxide - pilot Chewbacca . While Han and Rey get off to a bite of a rough showtime , it look like they might have a bright future together as Han offered her an prescribed job on the Millenium Falcon .

These dreams were shattered , however , when at the conclusion of the film , Kylo Ren killed Han with his own lightsaber . There probably was n’t a realistic future in which Harrison Ford would have issue forth back to encounter Han anyway , but it still injure us to the core that Han was killed by his own Logos . We ’re not lead to forgive you for that one , Kylo Ren .

He Should: Made Rey Question Luke

When Rey get in on the planet Ahch - To inThe Last Jedi , she fare to discover that Luke has been intentionally conceal from everyone after Kylo Ren tried to cease him and his Jedi Academy . During the metre that Rey expend with Luke , he carry on to be withdrawn and tell her only parts of his story that gibe comfortably within his own taradiddle .

As Rey drop more time on Ahch - To , a Force - linkup of sorts come between Kylo and Rey , allowing them to communicate despite being in unlike parts of the coltsfoot . During these communications , Kylo finally divulges why he turned on Luke , have Rey to urge Luke further and confess everything that materialise that led to Kylo ’s turn to the sorry side . This may be a controversial choice , but no matter of where you shore on it , this action push the chronicle forward , eventually get Rey to go after Kylo in Bob Hope of redeeming him .

He Shouldn’t: Attacks A Village On Jakku

InThe Force Awakens , one of the first events is a Stormtrooper foray on Jakku , led by none other than , you gauge it : Kylo Ren . Is n’t Jakku just another deserty planet like Tattooine ? Why go there ? Well , it just so happens that hiding out on Jakku is Lor San Tekka who has a mapping to Ahch - To , where Luke is rumored to be hide .

Lor San Tekka , however , decline to comply with Kylo Ren ’s demands and is subsequently killed by him . There was n’t a lot of supernumerary meter inThe Force Awakensfor more of Lor San Tekka ’s story , but we wish Kylo had n’t snuffed him out so quickly .

He Should: Killed Snoke And His Cronies

InThe Last Jedi , Rey is eventually held captive by Snoke before he orders Kylo Ren to kill her . Just when we think Rey may be done for , Kylo Ren defies everyone ’s expectation and slice Snoke in one-half with a lightsaber ( though perhaps not as cleanly as Darth Maul was slit by Obi - Wan inThe Phantom Menace ) .

If Kylo Ren were completely take over by the Dark Side , there would have been no reason for him to waffle killing Rey . Instead , not only does he pour down Snoke , but he also fights side - by - side Rey as they take out the Elite Praetorian Guards in one of the most epic battles of the total saga . understandably , Kylo is n’t too far gone here .

He Shouldn’t: Destroyed Luke’s Jedi Order

While Luke certainly had a moment of weakness that could have stop in the death of Kylo Ren , he did n’t need to go and destroy the intact order Luke had established . Those students , like the child Anakin Skywalker killed , were innocent .

Regardless of their eld , destroy devoid lives was more than a step too far , Kylo . By all substance , have it out with Luke ; do n’t put innocents in harm ’s path , though .

He Should: Tried To Form An Alliance With Rey

Upon destroying Snoke and his guards , Kylo Ren spend a penny yet another interesting choice . You may have look him to then take out Rey , now that nobody else could stop him . However , at this bit Kylo Ren bid to form an alliance with Rey . cede , this alignment is still one in which he is the new Supreme Leader , but it ’s certainly not an offering he would have made to anyone else .

Surely Kylo Ren must have have sex that Rey would not take him up on such an offer . Granted , he does n’t go out of his way of life to convince her to stay put with him , but he could have well just killed her according to Snoke ’s orders and then taken out Snoke and his guard . He would n’t have just keep Rey live to fight the guards , proper ?

He Shouldn’t: Tried to Kill Rey

On more than one occasion , Kylo Ren has taste to end Rey . Based upon what the prevue have revealed fromThe Rise of Skywalker , we in all likelihood have not regard his last attempt .

Hopefully , Kylo Ren will eventually choose the Light and realize he should have been with Rey all along , rather than trying to kill her . But as it stands , he ’s tried to toss off her more metre than he ’s tried to save her . We ’ll see whatThe Rise of Skywalkerbrings .

He Should: More Morally Conflicted Than Vader

Through Kylo Ren operate the blood of the Skywalkers , even Darth Vader who has intelligibly had more of an influence upon him than any other household appendage . Kylo Ren has made abominable , virtuously reprehensible determination , corresponding to Vader himself . However , once Anakin Skywalker became Darth Vader , there was slight , if anything , that caused him to rethink his decision .

Kylo Ren , on the other manus , is constantly separate on where his commitment lies . Granted , for the vast legal age ofThe Force AwakensandThe Last Jedi , he is firmly on the dark side . But seldom do we see him palpate like that ’s where he belongs ; like it ’s where he ’s making the greatest contribution . Because of this , we ’re hoping Rey is able to bring him to the lighting .

He Shouldn’t: Supreme Leader Ren?

At the conclusion ofThe Last Jedi , Kylo Ren remain to pursue the Resistance and battle it out with Luke on the planet Crait . He stress to kill Luke , trust that in so doing he will bring an end to the Jedi .   Kylo Ren is surprised to reveal , however , that he is not actually defend Luke , but a forcefulness - projection of Luke while the existent Luke is on Ahch - To .

The remains of the Resistance manage to get out and from here , he looks to be the fresh Supreme Leader to head The First Order . We will see whether Kylo Ren ultimately chooses the light or the night .
