receive to our Star Wars countdown . Ahead of the passing ofThe ascent of Skywalker , which prognosticate to bring in 40 years of storytelling to an worked up and hearty conclusion , we ’re pouring over all of the movies that have gone before it . And we ’re now onto 2002’sAttack of the Clones , which was the second chapter of George Lucas ’ inventive , albeit factious , prequel trilogy .
We now take a face at the five things we liked advantageously about the movie - and the five things we did n’t like so much . It ’s always good to begin with a positive so here we go …
The Best: Anakin Skywalker & Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Dynamics
Anakin Skywalker inThe Phantom Menacewas criticise by many , with some fans venting their Erinyes at George Lucas for choosing to make the theatrical role nine years old and expressing their bother with Jake Lloyd ’s portrayal . The decision was then made to advance the account by a decennium and Hayden Christensen was give his probability to glow as the Jedi who would one day go on to become Darth Vader .
And while Christensen is shamed of some poor dialogue ( something we ’ll get to ) his dynamics with Ewan McGregor ’s Obi - Wan Kenobi are brilliant . They are credible as Jedi master and apprentice and you truly see how their relationship could transubstantiate into something more sinister down the line . The ken of understand them fighting side by side , too , also makes their kinship that bite more particular .
The Worst: The Dialogue
Hayden Christensen , like Jake Lloyd before him , was also subject to literary criticism for his depiction as Anakin Skywalker . People just did n’t seem to think that either of the two thespian were doing the character justice . And , once again , it ’s the dialog that does n’t exactly work in their favour .
Comments like ‘ I do n’t care sand ’ and ‘ I ’m haunt by the kiss you should never have given me ’ are n’t the sort of thing you ’d ask Vader , as the most - powerful Jedi horse of all time , to say . And , gratefully , George Lucas see his error , thus improving thing considerably for 2005’sRevenge of the Sith .
The Best: Jango Fett
It ’s rather ironic that Boba Fett is actually held in high-pitched regard than his don , Jango Fett . The former is only in a smattering of scenes during the original trilogy , not really doing much before pass away a rather poor death via the Sarlaac pit during 1981’sReturn of the Jedi . Even George Lucas had no estimation how popular the character would become .
But Jango Fett is better in nearly every agency . He ’s deadlier with a gun , a captain in manipulation and also shows vast courage by engage powerful Jedi Knights such as Obi - Wan Kenobi and Mace Windu in armed combat . It ’s a pity he would n’t live to see another megahit , though , with Windu ruthlessly execute him during the battle of Geonosis .
The Worst: Count Dooku
Everybody had anticipate Darth Maul to be the villain of the prequel trilogy , in particular after his red and black aspect was plastered on plenty of merchandise material for the film . However , after his surprise defeat inThe Phantom Menace , George Lucas then chose to cast the legendary Christopher Lee as Count Dooku forAttack of the Clones .
And while Lee was a superb actor , Dooku feel flat by comparing . He was nothing special to look at and did n’t have the same aura that Maul did . That enounce , he still boast in one of the blockbuster ’s best bits …
The Best: Count Dooku vs Yoda
For many old age , the thought of seeing Yoda in lightsaber combat appeared absurd . That small niggling green matter fromThe Empire Strikes Backfighting ? Is that some sort of joke ?
However , George Lucas accept the bluff decision to have him absorb Count Dooku in a affaire d’honneur during the conflict on Geonosis ( more on that later on ) . And it ’s a superb , adrenaline - fuelled scene with Yoda using stunning gymnastic motility to try and vote down his adversary . finally , he has to give on press Dooku to save the lives of Obi - Wan Kenobi answers Anakin Skywalker , both of which had already been defeat by the Sith Lord despite it being two against one .
The Worst: The Naboo Scenes
During the Battle of Midway power point of the movie , Anakin Skywalker is get off to protect Padme Amidala on Naboo following the Trade Federation ’s go bad attacks on her life . Despite love being foreclose for a Jedi , Anakin fail to control his emotion and Padme finds herself fall for him too , despite jazz the difficulty it would land them both in if their champion were to get hold out .
But while we ’ve nothing against a honest love level , some of the scenes are rather hard to watch . The dialogue is certainly enough to make you cringe and they spend their entire time on Naboo woodenly flirting with each other . Their relationship improves significantly when they relocate to Tatooine to try and write Shmi Skywalker from the Tusken Raiders .
The Best: The Geonosis Battle
WhileAttack of the Clonesis study one of the weaker movies of theStar Warssaga , nearly everybody can agree that the conflict on Geonosis was brilliantly executed . Anakin Skywalker , Obi - Wan Kenobi and Padme Amidala are all face death when the entirety of the Jedi Council , and later on the Clone cavalryman make on Kamino , hail to their rescue .
George Lucas holds nothing back here , with action taking up every column inch of the screen . There ’s so many highlight , such as the trio take to the woods the monsters sent to off them , Mace Windu decapitate Jango Fett and Yoda leading the trooper on the battlefield . Moments like these are why this engagement make this tilt .
The Worst: The Geonosis Creatures
Okay , so we have just one complaint with the Geonosis battle shot . And that ’s the three creatures who are sent to destroy Anakin Skywalker , Obi - Wan Kenobi and Padme Amidala . Count Dooku , unwilling to dirty his own hands , limit an acklay , a fetor and a nexu to kill the trio and deal a blow to the Republic in the process .
But all three , despite seeming redoubtable , are actually defeated pretty easily . Anakin and Obi - Wan both kill one each while Jango Fett , despite not being a Jedi , is also able-bodied to get in on the human action . We also reckon their CGI looks a little off , too , and we believe them to be among the speculative creatures across the full franchise .
The Best: The Ending
Knowing that Anakin Skywalker ’s transformation to Darth Vader would be complete in the next movie , Attack of the Clonesneeded to end on a note where you ’d feel as if something big is coming . And the ending is dead brilliant because it total machination and mystique onwards of the final pleasure trip of the prequel trilogy .
There ’s so much to get excited about by the conclusion . How will the Clone Wars that we ’d long get word about trifle out ? How would Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala fall apart when they seem so in erotic love and get splice ? How would Palpatine put the finish touch on his ascension to Emperor ? All of those questions were eddy around our heads when we left theatre of operations 17 years ago .
The Worst: Jocasta Nu
She may have only appeared in the movie for a couple of seconds , but Jocasta Nu may just be the natural fictitious character within the entirety ofStar Wars . We ’re serious !
Obi - Wan Kenobi meets her in the Jedi Library when he ’s endeavor to settle the planet of Kamino . She is most unhelpful , however , and sardonically snaps back importune that if the location is n’t in the library ’s records , then it does n’t survive . Even today , many years on , she ’s been subject to the meme treatment . And her discourtesy , we recollect , was why you were throw a chance to kill her off during theRevenge of the Sithvideo game discharge three years later .
