In the most recent plus ofCinefex(via : Comicbook ) , it was revealed that Abrams not only wanted to bring the Sith Maker back inThe Force Awakensbut would have explained that Palpatine was really a clone . Visual effects supervisor Roger Guyett explained Abrams ' original architectural plan inCinefex , which can be say in his program line below :

" Ian was such a major part of the original picture show . J.J. wanted to bring him back to reveal that Palpatine was n’t completely destroyed in Episode VII . He make a dead ringer of himself and , with the assistance of Sith loyalists , reconstruct himself to a fragmented and unstable state . When Kylo encounter him , Palpatine is not fully formed , and he bank on tubes and mechanics , make a motion around this Sith research lab on a mechanism that Kevin Jenkins designed . He has the liveliness of the Sith , but he ’s trapped inside a body that ’s incomplete . "

The restoration of Palpatine was one of many things thatpeople criticizedThe Rise of Skywalkerfor . Many felt that the story was cramped and rushed with everything Disney endeavor to pack intoThe Rise of Skywalker ’s two time of day and twenty - two minute runtime . This leave fans with several unresolved storylines from the premature films as well as many uncomplete or unsatisfying story electric arc . Due to thebacklash ofStar Wars : The Last Jedi , The ascent of Skywalkeralso seemed to retcon a lot of what its forerunner set up .

Palpatine in The Force Awakens

Overall , the biggest ill many had about the sequel trilogy as a whole was that the tarradiddle felt very disjointed because of how many people had their workforce on the three pic . If Abrams had train all three films or at least written the whole trilogy , it would have experience like a much more cohesive story , and Palpatine ’s yield could have been more natural .   The novelisation ofStar war : The Rise of Skywalkerdid recently substantiate thatPalpatine was a ringer , but it ’s unknown why this plot point was n’t used in the film or why Palpatine did n’t just return inStar Wars : The Force Awakens . That being said , many buff complain thatThe Force Awakensfelt like a remake of the originalStar Wars , so bringing Palpatine back may not have been the best conclusion .
