To not have him repay when his own sister urgently needed his aid , or when his just friend was hit by his nephew - all things that , were Luke connected to the Force and still the same Luke of former , he ’d have done in a heartbeat . Johnson pluck up the reins with aLuke Skywalkerwho was stranded on an island , confronted with a deep young girl he clear was n’t delighted to see , and who had turned his back on the Resistance , on Leia and Han , and being a hero . The Last Jedi , again , gave that a story , signification , and profoundness , and brought things full circle by terminate with Luke Skywalker as the hero and Bob Hope of the galaxy once again . The Last Jedididn’t do away with the onetime Luke;The Force Awakenshad already done that . Instead , it ’s the movie that bring him back .
