With the unsurprisingly controversial press release ofStar war : The rising of Skywalker , Disney ’s sequel trilogy to George Lucas ’ dear space opera house has come to a close . It ended the unplanned story arc as well as anyone could ’ve expect , which is n’t read much . This trilogy also bring a fistful of new villains intoStar Warslore .
honestly , there were no truly great baddie in this trilogy . The ones that had hope were underserved by the history and the unity that did n’t have promise have been bone down the audience ’s throats for the past four years . So , we ’ll be ranking all the baddie in theStar Warssequel trilogy .
Supreme Leader Snoke
Despite the promise of cause Andy Serkis in a motion - capture performance , Supreme Leader Snoke was nothing more than a Palpatine countercurrent - off . He was the bozo on the throne who manipulated a Skywalker over to the dark side of the Force and then used him to build an malign empire .
When Snoke was retconned as one of Palpatine ’s creations inThe ascent of Skywalkerand not mention again follow the movie ’s opening two minutes , no one batted an eye . J.J. Abrams madepromises about the mystery of Snoke ’s identityinThe Force Awakensthat Rian Johnson could n’t possibly live up to , so Johnson blend in the other fashion and down off Snoke in unceremonious fashion . The character was a originative failure .
DJ
From his very first appearance inThe Last Jedi , Benicio del Toro ’s technically nameless “ slicer ” character reference – who still has a name , DJ ( “ Do n’t connect ” ) – telegraphed to Finn and Rose that he was run to betray them . He made it very clear that he does n’t take position in political conflicts and the only cause he was getting involved at all was for money .
As shortly as the First Order pop the question DJ a sound wad , he take it and sold out Finn and Rose . The two were surprised by this ideological replacement , for God know what reason , but the audience certainly was n’t .
General Hux
It would n’t be aStar Warsmovie without a blub bureaucrat who dispute the Sith - powered villain and gets continually put in his place . Unfortunately , General Hux was just the worst . His arc ended with becoming a spy to help the Resistance bring down the First Order , which did n’t feel like a natural progression for his persona at all .
Domhnall Gleeson is a very talented role player – as shown inEx Machina , mother ! , and theBlack Mirrorepisode “ Be decent Back ” – but there was no way of making Hux likable . He was sort of the Grand Moff Tarkin of this fresh trilogy , but where Peter Cushing played a baddie that you love to hate , Gleeson just played a baddie that you hate .
Allegiant General Pryde
Richard E. Grant ’s character fromThe Rise of Skywalker , Allegiant General Pryde , gets bonus points for vote out General Hux . His whole role in the secret plan was figure out that Hux was the undercover agent who pass away information to the Resistance and then shooting him utter on the spot .
He does n’t have a lot to do in the film – and , frankly , his existence at all ina movie jamming - pack with so much plot of ground materialis just justified – but thanks to Grant ’s typically engaging performance , Pryde is captivating when he is on - screen . When he got blasted out of his ship , it was pretty lurid .
Baton-wielding Stormtrooper
This character only has a minor role inThe Force Awakens , but it was easily one of the most awesome moments in the whole movie . The Stormtroopers had a flake on their shoulder when it came to Finn , because from their perspective , he was a fearful deserter who abandoned his post .
When he confronted a Stormtrooper outside Maz Kanata ’s castle on Takodana , he ignited his fresh take on lightsaber – and the Stormtrooper promptly respond by getting out an electrified baton . The fight was a gripping chronological sequence , and this young weapon was one of the sequel trilogy ’s best additions to the Stormtroopers ’ arsenal .
Kylo Ren
There was a terrific character bury somewhere in Ben Solo , and if either J.J. Abrams or Rian Johnson had been in thrill of the sequel trilogy singlehandedly , they could ’ve done something really interesting with his journey . However , switching hands between the two filmmakers caused Kylo Ren ’s bow to come off as muddled and directionless .
The pauperism to produce a new mask villain in the mould of Darth Vader prevented Ben from becoming a truly unique character . His redemption at the end ofThe Rise of Skywalkercould’ve been a powerful here and now , but it did n’t sense realise , because the build - up was too jumbled . And the osculation ruined it .
Captain Phasma
Gwendoline Christie ’s character Captain Phasma showed real promise . She was a badass with an ice - cold-blooded deportment and a personal blood feud against one of the heroes ( Finn , for desert her squadron ) . When she was first revealed in the leading up toThe Force Awakens ’ release , Star Warsfans theorise that Phasma would be the Boba Fett of this raw trilogy , and that flex out to be more accurate than those rooter would ’ve like .
Just like Fett , she was insert as the trilogy ’s coolest villain in one picture and then give a really underwhelming death scene in the next one . What we did see of Phasma – before she was killed off with that cheesy “ chrome - domed stadium ” line – was thrilling .
Emperor Palpatine
Having already been the unspoiled villain in the original and prequel trilogies , Emperor Palpatine give back inThe Rise of Skywalkerin an attempt to win back the love and respect of scorned devotee who hatedThe Last Jedi . Palpatine ’s return negated the triumph of the Rebel Alliance and the redemption of Anakin Skywalker inReturn of the Jedi , but Ian McDiarmid continued to play the role bright .
And he was undeniably one of the best parts ofThe Rise of Skywalker . Even the Book of Revelation that Rey is Palpatine ’s granddaughter sort of work , because it bond the whole saga together and made the continuation trilogy feel necessary and not justthe shameless cash - grab it was .
