It would have been virtually impossible forStar Wars ' last Skywalker saga film , The climb of Skywalker , to leave rightful closure to every single unanswered inquiry across a nine film saga . But what ’s most unsatisfying of all is that the picture show even fail to resolve its own trilogy ’s many unanswered questions .

Due in large part to writer - director J.J. Abrams ' beloved of inane patch devices known as " mystery boxes , " the sequel trilogy is pervade with plot holes , undecided stories , questionable character arcs , dropped relationships , and so much more . Here , we ’ve recap ten of the most glaring and offensive omission .

Finn’s Origins

For three movies , Finn has been one of the lead fibre of the continuation trilogy . But even after an integral trilogy , we still barely know anything about Finn , even though we were promised to have all our question answered inThe rising slope of Skywalker .

Not for one moment does the photographic film proffer any answers regarding Finn ’s backstory or origins , feeling or goals . He has no narration in this pic , simply acting as a stock action at law paladin , whose feelings are never expressed and delineation composition thin at intimately .

The Knights Of Ren

One of the early characterizations of Kylo Ren inThe Force Awakenswas forge home his role as the Master of the Knights of Ren . Who are these mysterious knight ? Surely , we would get some answers to that . WhenThe Last Jedileft them unexplored , it made all the sense in the world forThe Rise of Skywalkerto reveal the truth .

But nope . Not even in the slightest . These character were never give lines , or name , and only ever act menacing in sync . But hey , if you ’re up to reading them , expanded universe comics will surely allow the answers the films were too lazy to .

Broom Boy

InThe Last Jedi , the film ’s last nip opened up the entire universe ofStar Warsto some raw , groundbreaking , profoundly inspiring potential story . A mathematical group of young children on Canto Bight listen in veneration to the story of that mythic fig Luke Skywalker , and one vernal boy shows sign of having Force abilities .

This import makes for the potential for the Force to be universal , not privileged to a select few . But inThe Rise of Skywalker , that impression is forgotten , or else substitute with the tired press on bloodline discrimination .

Finn & Rose

Another casualty ofThe Last Jediin J.J. Abrams ' often miserly - spirited pic was the warm relationship between Finn and Rose Tico . InThe Rise of Skywalker , Rose is relegated to the purpose of a background character , often even out of focus in the pellet and just contribute more than a few words at a time .

These two barely even interact in the film as well , but every clip they do , it ’s as if their dangerous undertaking and their kiss and Rose ’s sacrifice never even happened . Finn scarcely compensate care to Rose , who distinctly seems to still have emotional investment in him . All around , it ’s just cruel .

Force Sensitive Stormtroopers

Another puzzling storyline acquaint in the film , but never fully explore was the estimation that for some understanding , an total squadron of Stormtroopers - Finn included - had Force sensitivity . Furthermore , in the way this idea was so casually and offhand discussed , the moving picture makes it seem as though Stormtroopers only ever desert because the Force tells them to .

It removes any common sense of bureau or morality from their selection , and even Finn ’s , who once seemed so imposing a wedge for choosing to leave the life he was forced into . Now , it ’s just all a mirky mess - much like the respite of this film .

Force Ghosts

The notion of Force ghosts is something that theStar Warssaga has retroactively struggled with for its entire running game . In the original trilogy , when Force user give out , they simply become one with the Force and receive a Force trace . In the prequel trilogy , it seems as though it requires great study and breeding to be able to become one with the Force , as Qui - Gon does .

In the sequel trilogy , all bet are literally off . Yoda is back as a Force trace , and jell a tree on blast . Luke is a Force touch , and levitates an X - Wing . Leia is a Force ghost , despite barely training at all . But Ben Solo , who ransom himself , became one with the Force , and disappears , is n’t pass on one . Why ?

Maz Having Luke’s Saber

As yet another of J.J. Abrams ' many infuriating mystery boxes , we never learn precisely how Maz add up to possess the Skywalker legacy saber . It ’s a storyline pester inThe Force Awakens- a story that Maz even insist she will tell another meter , later on . But she never does .

know the elbow room things are depend for the sequel trilogy going forward , we ’re sure the answer will be provided somewhere , whether in a Maz - centrical comic serial or an offhand remark in the novelization of the plastic film .

Luke & Leia Accepting A Palpatine, But Rejecting Their Own Family

One of the cruelest reveals in the intact moving picture is Luke ’s offhanded comment that both he and Leia had always sleep with that Rey was a Palpatine . It not only stool them both look ill , as it base the entireness of their relationships with this young girl on clamorous Trygve Lie , but it also make them look even worse in retrospect when it comes totheir family relationship with Ben .

If Luke and Leia could take a Palpatine descendant with swarthiness inside her genetics , why did they so revere Ben , their own son and nephew ? Why did they abandon him ? Why did Luke endeavor to vote out him ? We have so many question , and we know these will never be answered .

The Jedi Temple Massacre

Much of the demonization of Kylo Ren within the narrative of the sequel trilogy comes upon the impression that he unexpectedly snap one day , destroyed Luke ’s Jedi temple , and slaughter his fellow students . AsThe Last Jediexplores , that was n’t exactly how things went down , pay Luke ’s momentary lapse of judgment when he nearly kill his own nephew .

But beyond that brief reveal that Ben Solo merely acted in ego - defense at first , we never find out - on screen - what really go on that night , and to all those other students . The newThe Rise of Kylo Rencomic series may have supply some answers , but the universal interview will never find them out . And that ’s a real ignominy .

Balance In The Force

The Rise of Skywalkerintroduces plenty of new conception to theStar Warsuniverse on the whole , but one of the least explain of them all is the impression that Rey and Ben are a distich in the Force . The phrase is used multiple times , along with the notion that they are two who are actually one , but beyond that , nothing is explained .

Does their bond representthe Force ultimately having proportionality ? What bump now , with Ben dead and Rey alone ? In his words of wisdom to her , Anakin implores Rey to convey residue as he once did . But did he really ever ? Did Rey ever ? It ’s all so confusing , and likely always will be .
