The Perks of Being a Wallflower
In 1999 , author and director Stephen Chbosky put out his award winning book , The Perks of Being A Wallflower . Thirteen years later it earn a movie adaptation and became an even bountiful success , with starsEmma Watson , Ezra Miller , and Logan Lerman . Similar to most movie adaptations , not everything in the movie was parallel to that of the record book .
This story focalize on Charlie , a high school Freshman , and his modest mathematical group of friend . In both adaptations his freshly get aged friends take him under their backstage and draw him through high shoal . Over time , Charlie begins to fall for Sam , one of the Seniors , which winds up cause all kinds of drama for their friend grouping . This collection is a perfect coming of age story with all of its raw and relatable aspects .
However , how does the motion-picture show equate to its informant textile ?
Movie: Sam and Charlie’s Relationship
While both the book and the film both portrayed their family relationship in a good path , the motion-picture show just seemed to have a better hold on things . Sam ’s language to Charlie towards the end of the film was a perfect in all possible way . Even when the two of them were n’t dating they had a connection that the ledger at long last did not capture as well as the movie .
The path that the producers come on said speech as well as all of their other scenes , including their Christmas aspect and their scenes after Charlie get to the hospital , was phenomenal .
Book: Charlie’s Mental Health
Though the movie did share a bonnie amount of lighting on Charlie ’s genial state , the book gave fan a not bad sense of clarity . In the book readers got a better horizon of Charlie ’s living before he met Sam and Patrick which was much needed for fully understand Charlie as a person .
In the movie , however , the primary focus was on his kinship with his aunt Helen and briefly discussed his friendships before high school .
Movie: Mr. Anderson
Mr. Anderson was one of the best characters in both the book and the movie , however it feel easier to connect with the movie adaptation . Like the respite of the cast , the role of Mr. Anderson was dead cast to Paul Rudd . Mr. Anderson was one of Charlie ’s first friends , but he was tolerant to Charlie when everyone else was n’t .
Something worth note is how he would always give Charlie books . Charlie was a smart minor , nothing in the film or the picture suggest that he was n’t . However , Mr. Anderson impart to twinkle to Charlie ’s talent and potential as a author , something that not a tidy sum of his acquaintance and family pay attention to .
Book: Everything About Candace
Candace ’s storyline in the account book was wonderful , and he fan were left a little disappointed when some of her key character percentage point were leave out of the moving picture . For representative , in the Koran Candace find out that she is pregnant with Ponytail Derek ’s baby . give that she ’s in mellow school and Derek is a atrocious boyfriend , she determine to end the pregnancy .
There were also a wad of flashback to Charlie ’s puerility with his siblings that viewing audience did n’t get to see in the movie , and there were some obvious differences in his and Candace ’s relationship .
Movie: Rocky!
Perhaps one of the greatest things to come of this picture was the seniors ( Patrick , Sam , Mary Elizabeth , and Alice ) and Bob ’s production ofThe Rocky Horror Picture Show ! With Patrick front and shopping centre as Dr. Frank - N - Furter it was bound to be a success . When Craig , Sam ’s lousy college swain , bails on being Rocky for yet another time , they ask Charlie to take his shoes .
Charlie does and his spunk are through the roof ( especially during Touch - a , Touch - a Touch - a , Touch Me ) but in the death it wind up being one of the good scenes and patch gunpoint of the movie .
Book: Patrick
There ’s no denying that Patrick had his fair share of rough patches in his life , and for the most part the book did a good job at representing that . Of course , both the book and moving-picture show are told from Charlie ’s perspective , so all of this is based off of what he saw or was told .
The book pass on reader a respectable look at what happened during Patrick and Brad ’s family relationship , how things amaze where they were . The relationship was almost toxic , and the Koran did much better at express that .
Movie: Charlie, Sam, and Patrick’s Friendship
Both the movie and the Good Book paid Justice Department to this iconic trio , however the movie won everyone over with the perfect actors and their effortless chemical science . Though the book had more details and scenes for the three , the movie did a good line of work at entrance what they had .
Charlie ’s first time babble out to Sam and Patrick at the football secret plan was a unadulterated introduction to his next friend . The scene after Charlie went to the hospital were beautiful and could not have been done better .
Book: Charlie and His Aunt Helen
It is imply in both the playscript and the movie that Aunt Helen abuse Charlie exchangeable to how she had been abuse when she was a child . Though the movie did cast off a fair amount of light on the guinea pig , the book simply handled it well . Readers know that Helen had been molested by her sire at a youthful age , and during the picture show it is suggested that she did the same to Charlie .
The book provided much more information about Helen and her spirit , making it much easier to pull in connection than the movie .
Movie: The Tunnel and King’s
Perhaps two of the most iconic things in the moving picture , King ’s and the Tunnel . After first coming together Charlie , Sam and Patrick take him to baron , a restaurant they frequent . The restaurant host some of the good conversations of the film , including Sam recite Charlie and Patrick about her life at Penn State after graduation .
The Tunnel is the first thing watcher see once the movie begins . At the time it seems thoroughly insignificant but as the news report progresses it begins to play a very key role . After Homecoming , Sam and Patrick take Charlie to his first company . On the way , they go through the Tunnel and blast David Bowie ’s " Heroes , " a song they had somehow never take heed . Sam climbs through the back window of their hand truck and stands in the bed with her hands in the air as Patrick drives on in dissent .
Book: Christmas
One of the better moment in the book , the Christmas party . The group of friends does Secret Santa all calendar week long until the net solar day when they all forgather at Sam and Patrick ’s sign of the zodiac with all of the natural endowment they had received and their last endowment to give . They seat in the biz room and drink brandy and interchange gifts until they all finish and Sam took Charlie in her room to give him his gift : a typewriter .
Sam asks Charlie if he had ever been kiss by a female child , and when he said no she tell that she wanted to be sure that the first individual who kissed him loved him . She kisses Charlie , even though she is still in a family relationship with Craig , and the chapter ends with a poem Charlie read to his supporter and was also his last talent to Patrick .
