The Santa Clause
In 1994 , Disney release what become one of the most surprising holiday hits ever , The Santa Clause . Tim Allen was doing pretty well for himself on the hit sitcomHome Improvement , so , of course , the next natural career move was to make a holiday picture show .
For good or for worse , it ’s the role that Tim Allen was birth to act . If not for his function as Buzz Lightyear , this would probably be his most infamous Disney role . But his character , Scott Calvin , while he does some great things along the way , is n’t always the best function model . We thought of a few thing that present why Charlie may or may not have been good off with him as his father .

C’m on , Scott . You get Charlie for less than 24 60 minutes and this is the ripe you could do ?

Together , they make Christmas come to the rest of their city and they head to the North Pole . This may not have been Scott ’s most prominent act as a dad , but at least it was a step in the right direction .
Bad Dad: Wouldn’t Finish Reading The Night Before Christmas
After a disappointing dinner at Denny ’s , Scott rejoin home with Charlie and reads him the classical Christmas fib , " The Night Before Christmas " . At first , it come out that Charlie has accrue numb about halfway through the story and Scott decide to speed through the rest and close up the book .
To Scott ’s disappointment , Charlie Francis Peyton Rous and begins require questions about the level to which Scott derides and argue with him . Hey Scott , we recognise it ’s frustrating when your tyke wo n’t go to slumber , but the least you’re able to do is finish reading the account without being rude . You only get one night with Charlie , for crying out loud !
Good Dad: Showed Up For Career Day
Sometime after Christmas , it ’s Career Day at Charlie ’s school . This would be the perfect moment in the film for Scott to draw a blank about it and try and make it at the last minute . alternatively , he is there prepared to babble out to Charlie ’s class about what he does for a bread and butter . The post goes in the south as Charlie tries to convert the course that Scott is Santa Claus , but that ’s not Scott ’s fault and he does his near to play along without causing too much commotion . Again , mayhap not Scott ’s highest point as a dad , but at least he was there .
Bad Dad: Killed Santa Claus
Yes , we roll in the hay that there would virtually be no movie without this moment . We all would be accept aback if we saw a man dressed as Santa on our cap . But , or else of calling 9 - 1 - 1 when Santa falls , Scott begins rehearsing a news report he thinks he ’ll have to excuse if and when he run into the cops .
You just stimulate the death of Santa Claus and all you’re able to intend about is likely pending judicial proceeding ? Goodness , Scott . Way to shock Charlie .
Good Dad: Showed Up To Charlie’s Soccer Game
As the picture show goes on , more opportunities for Scott to testify he ’s a dad that like come up . This would be another perfect mo for Scott to die , but rather , he present up to Charlie ’s soccer gamebeforeLaura and Neal . Sadly , this situation does n’t go as design as fry inexplicably start out come up to him treating him like Santa and asking him for Christmas presents .
When Laura and Neal show up , it all goes down the drain . Scott even offers to leave without make a scene , but rather , Laura and Neal decide to take Charlie and leave . Really , it ’s heavy to see where Scott could have done considerably in this scenario .
Bad Dad: Tried To Pretend The North Pole Trip Wasn’t Real
Not long after Career Day , Scott and Charlie are at an aquarium talking about their recent adventures . Charlie tries to get Scott to trust he ’s Santa , only to be severalize that none of what they experience was material and to just pretend it did n’t pass off .
Eventually , Scott walks this plan back a little bit and tells Charlie to just keep it a arcanum , but really , Scott ? Your idea for trying to address the situation was simply to gaslight your child into thinking the experience you both had did n’t take place ? Not your best move .
Good Dad: Shot Down A Bad Toy Idea

He remind the board that the miniature has too many pieces , is too hard to put together , and break too easily .
Scott is emphatically going against the board ’s wish and suggest that the board put a better , simpler toy on the securities industry . presumptively , this does n’t stop up happening , but Scott is thinking of the kids at this second instead of just being a grabby businessman .
Bad Dad: Kidnapped Charlie
After accept the fact that he is , indeed , Santa Claus , Scott takes Charlie and they evaporate with Bernard to the North Pole . This is shortly after it has just been decided that Scott will lose his custody exclusive right with Charlie . It was sheer to just show up at Laura and Neal ’s place and call for to see Charlie , but it is something else to take Charlie without state anything .
The editing is good at making meter run quickly enough that it seems like it ’s less than 24 hours before Charlie returns . However , Scott bear witness up on Thanksgiving , takes Charlie and does n’t come back until Christmas Eve ! small wonderment that Laura and Neal call the police force to report Scott . Maybe he should have had to pass a little more time in the jailhouse before getting to see Charlie again .
Good Dad: Decided To Become Santa
Once he loses visitation rights with Charlie , Scott tries to see him and say au revoir . Charlie makes a last - ditch effort to make Scott get along to adhesive friction with realness and substantiate he ’s the new Santa . Charlie throws the snowglobe he got at the North Pole to Scott , have him to come to his senses and rear to the juncture .
It may have taken almost the entire movie , but at last , Scott accepts his novel identity as Santa Clause and reelect to the North Pole to carry out Christmas plans . Who knows what would have happened to Christmas if Scott had decidednotto be Santa ?
