The Void
2017 ’s acclaimed indie horror flickThe Voidpresented both masterful hardheaded issue work and a Lovecraftian news report , but will it ever get a sequel ? As is true of every other genre , the revulsion celluloid that tend to get the most attention are those made by major studio and released wide in house . That ’s completely understandable , and there certainly are lots of great theatrical horror movies released each yr . However , more than most genres , horror also thrives on what ’s produced by autonomous film producer .
In fact , many of the most critically acclaimed or financially successful revulsion films of all time began living as independent output , often getting shoot up and release to a wide consultation after they ’d impressed at festival screenings or otherwise caught on with genre traditionalist . When look at the yearly best of lists put together by revulsion fans , there ’s a good hazard about half the entries will be indie fright pic , some of which have yet to even get much notice outside of the horror community .

One of the bestindependent horror effortsproduced in the last few eld isThe Void , put together by the Canadian filmmaking collective know as Astron-6 . While not directly based on any specific story , The Void ’s cosmic themes instantly provoke legendary authorH.P. Lovecraft , and its use of show - halt practical force to create Lovecraft ’s awful horror serve to cue fans of 1980s classics likeThe ThingandThe Beyond . So , willThe Void 2ever happen ? Here ’s what we know .
The Void 2 Might Happen, But Isn’t in the Works Yet
The Voidwas directed by the duo Steven Kostanski and Jeremy Gillespie , with Kostanski since going on to helm the surprisingly playfulness Syfy rebootLeprechaun Returns . In late 2018 Kostanski was asked about the prospect ofThe Void 2,and sadly , his reply did n’t exactly delight fans . According to him , he and Gillespie are overflowing with possible estimation for a sequel toThe Void , but that the duet ca n’t make one without the cooperation of the first celluloid ’s producer . Could that occur ? Sure , but Kostanski seems to think the chances of it occur are n’t the greatest .
The Void 2 Story Possibilities
While Kostanski and Gillespie have yet to publicly discuss any of their thought forThe Void 2,we have some thoughts on where a subsequence might go . Fans will call back thatThe Voidended with villain Dr. Richard Powell ( Kenneth Welsh ) , depend ratherHellraiser - ish , come after in opening a triangle - shaped portal to a secret netherworld . He did this to bring his daughter back from the stagnant , although she return as a horrifyingLovecraftian monstrosity . Protagonist Daniel refused Powell ’s offer to bring together him and reunite with his recently deceased married woman , tackling him into the portal and entering the titulary void . Then , in a shot strikingly similar to the last shot of Lucio Fulci’sThe Beyond , Daniel is seen carry hands with his wife Allison while star up at a floating black pyramid .
The most obvious direction to go story - wise would be to follow Daniel and Allison ’s journey into the unknown , and possibly disclose what lurks inside that aforementioned Pyramids of Egypt . The problem is thatThe Voidwasn’t a high budget film , despite how dear its issue reckon . Doing a whole story inside the other dimension would in all likelihood require more resources to make viable than would be available . An alternate path could fee-tail making that simply part of a sequel , while the rest concerns another group of characters who end up in a Lovecraftian situation . Either way of life , horror fan will in all likelihood be happy to accept whatever Astron-6 comes up with .
