It ’s really difficult to babble about .

But I need to talk about how well-off it is to do bad things and net profit from them , and how severely it is to be a right somebody and conserve your wholeness and not wind up on the street .

( Laughs ) Yeah , well … You talk about the movie fairly well !

give thanks you !

Edward Norton and Willem Dafoe in Motherless Brooklyn

Yeah , those questions are in there . I think of , one of the things I care about this picture , it ’s not a polemist . It ’s really an entertainment . It ’s a chronicle . But it really does add out certain questions that I think are in the atmosphere anyway . But sometimes , as we know , it ’s loose to talk about things through a filter of the yesteryear . We can see the present better through a filter of the past . I think that ’s the guinea pig here . That may not be the intent , specifically , for Edward . He originally line up a beautiful character reference that he think was a beautiful kind of underdog hoagy , this guy cable with Tourette ’s Syndrome . Where what are perceived as his weaknesses become his strengths . There ’s a present moment where he decides to not be passive , and be active , and make his way in the populace and do something good . That was the initial impulse . And then when he add together this account , set it in the fifties , took it from the novel set in the 1990s , put it in the fifties for reasons kind of complicated to explain . And then had a whole other narration … That ’s where that story lead , to these question .

It ’s so interesting , the kinship between Lionel and Paul , how Paul … It would take very little dissimilar for Lionel to wreathe up like that or speculative .

It ’s true .

Did you have any backstory that ’s not needfully in the pic , of the determination that he made ?

Well , so much of the backstory is expressed . Because my character really holds the secret , some very personal family secrets that are going to right a wrongfulness , let ’s just put it that way . And in verbalise his family unit chronicle , and his human relationship to this closed book , he talks a lot about himself , so it ’s really write . That did not have to be invent . It ’s told .

Yes .

Yes . Earnestly ! Because what has happened to him has really chilled him , has really destruct him . And he ’s a military man looking for , he ’s hop for a conversion and he ’s also hop-skip for Justice Department .

The noir music genre is so celebrated for so many reasons . One of them being the esthetic , the visual , the style . While this goes so much deeper than that , there ’s also so much fantastical mode . The outfits you wear , even the delimitation floater style , it ’s still so hip ! Did you get to keep any of your clothes or anything like that ?

Where would I jade them ? ( Laughs ) So someone could say , " Hey , there ’s that guy from the picture show ! " Do n’t want to call your attention to yourself , you know , for any reason . No .

Fair enough !

But they ’re good to enter the world . The costumes . The secure thing a director can do , I mean , often , masses think it ’s all these conferences between yield , talking about the psychology of thing . But more often , it is really marvellous when the director earn a world that is so perfect , so articulate , so evocative , that you move into it and it works on you , and it ’s easy to enter because it ’s so light . And that was the character with this , because it was familiar , but also alien .
